Well, the company I work for currently has NO method of tracking any of their inventory.

From things like SecureID key fobs, Treo's, Blackberries, laptops, etc.

What I'd like to do is start tracking this stuff - because its ridiculous for our company to not know what we have...I shudder to think what our auditors do :)

anyways...what do you guys use? Any idea if there is something like this for sharepoint?

Thanks :)

You can start out with a simple DB that has write privileges for a few and read privileges for many.

Fields are needed for the description of item, serial #, responsible party, contact info and location of item.

Rules of the game:
Only a few can change the data.
Responsible party (signed out for) is accountable for location of item.

It is up to you to decide how detailed one defines an item.
System or component level.

I know I could do this with a simple DB...but was hoping there was some COTS stuff out there.

i may dev some of my own if I finish up the other dev projects I am working on - but if i had to get a few hundred bucks worth of software approved -- then i'd be golden.

Then again it would be kinda neat if I integrated it all into sharepoint... though thats putting a lot of my eggs in one basket.

sorry for thinking out loud. I was just curious what others use. But thanks for the suggestion :)
