I'm moving up to Indiana soon, I have to establish residency so that I can afford to go to Purdue. I was looking at Evansville, since I have some friends that live in Henderson, and that's not too far away. If anyone could give me some of their opinions on Evansville, that would be wonderful.

I go to Purdue, and I have friends that live in Evansville. It's not that bad of a place, but not that great either. It's very.. much like Kentucky. Heh. If I were you, I'd live up in Lafayette since you'd be killing a ton of gas going up and down to Purdue and back.

Stop light city.

That's all I remember of my 1 year I spent there. It has a mall and a psuedo-expressway.

And, at least Kentucky has some scenery..Indiana is flat...oh...and the DMV in Indiana must all be stoned. They do some WEIRD stuff!

I'd live in Indy...much more to do and much closer to Purdue.

It is a long drive from Evansville to Lafayette. There is no interstate linking them.

U.S. 41 up through Terre Haute. Took that to Chicago one time. Wasn't a bad drive...just had to watch the small towns.

Nah...it was a great trip. It was my longest solo drive to date and I enjoyed it (then again, I like to drive...I've done two weekend trips from Louisville to Connecticut :) )

And U.S. 41 is four-lanes most of the way (if not all). Much less traffic (and no semis hogging both lanes for miles)

I'd move up to Lafeyette when I started at Purdue, but I need to live in Indiana for a year before I can do that. I'd like to start out somewhere where'd I knew some people.

Well...there are worse places than Evansville but I'd look at Indy, or, maybe areas like Jeffersonville, New Albany, and Clarksville (Across the river from Louisville). I'd take here over Evansville any day.

Ah.. well prepare to be able to do nothing in Etown. If I were you I'd move to Indianapolis at least. Do you really care if you know anyone around if, if you'll not be able to do anything fun at all? :)

Yeah, from what I can tell, New Albany is nice. I lived in Indy, at Keystone at the Crossing. Expensive as hell in that part of town.

Meridian for nice houses. If you're looking for nice areas, downtown has some great spots, Broad Ripple is awesome too.

Hmm...New Albany looks interesting. I guess I'll make a trip up this weekend, and check it out. Thanks, everyone, for your help. It's invaluable.

Well, if you're looking for cheap, Bedford is very cheap (about 70 miles south on Indy), but boring.

I live in Crawfordsville (Wabash class of 2007) Lafayette (and West Lafayette) aren't bad, my sister went to Purdue for two years and liked it, although she transferred out when she got married. Why don't you just move to the Lafayette area?

I'm in Evansville... it's not a bad place to live.
There are lots of things to do here. It seems the main activity lately is running meth labs out of your car, house, friend's homes, farmers fields... ect.
We hear about meth lab busts so often, that we joke at work that you can pick up a meth lab kit at Walmart. :D

If you move to Evansville... the west side is growing fast and has a big USI population.
The east side has more U of E students.

Just move into Lafayette or West Lafayette. There are several of us up there already and you could get to know the area before you started school.
