Will this RAM boot up with this MOBO?

I am not a computer builder pro, so I need everything working from the start. No BIOS flashes, no jumper switches. Can anyone confirm that everything will boot up and work well together?

This memory is pretty much my only choice since buffalo firestix is out of stock, and I'm not waiting anymore.

PS: Will this firewire card work in the DS3? I need that for video transfers between my DV cam and PC.

PPS: Is this a good, compatible and Ocable CPU that will work in the DS3 from start? It's pretty much my only choice in this price range.

EDIT: Does newegg let ppl RMA ram just because they chose the wrong ram?

gskill ram work well with DS3, the E6300 which is very good oc option too. both parts work from start with the mobo, but if you want OC u must have to mess around with bios and settings for a while. There is no mobo that can just boot and oc to max from the first try. Well there is one mobo kind of capable to do that is INTEL BAD AXE 2

Booted right up

Pros: Booted on first try in GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965. No changes to default BIOS RAM settings.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Haven't OCed yet.

I think your ready to buy now.

The ram will work with your DS3. It will boot at 1.8v at 5-5-5-15... but for tight timing, you need to raise the voltage to the specified (2.0 v is the same as +0.2)

6300 should be ocable to 2.8 GHz really easily. have your memory do 1:1 and raise fsb to 400. You should get away with not raising vcore, vmch, vfsb. But if there's some problem, raise your MCH voltage by 0.1 should solve the problem. I'm running 2.8 GHz at 1.25 V on Vcore (undervolting!) and no change on other voltage.

OC above this could be problematic. This is because GSkill ram is not micron based and may not go much higher than 400 mHz. You should be able to reach 450 at 5-5-5-15 at 2.0 volts. Higher speed might not be orthos stable.

One guy in newegg reviews for this RAM says he got this memory running at 2.2v at 4-4-4-12. He OC'd his CPU to 3.5MHz if I remember correctly... Is it even safe to raise the voltage this high?

I did not buy this processor to stop at 2.8MHz. ;)

Ok I built a new system, everything is tested and stable.

I want to flash the BIOS to the never version but I cant understand what version I have right now. During post it says GA 965P - DS3 F10

On the box it says "Generation 2.0"

In the manual it says rev. 2002.

So what version do I have then?

I went to gigabyte's site and the's a BIOS for DS3 v 2.0. Once I click on that it asks me to pick one from F7 to F10. I dont want to screw up my BIOS so I need advice.

PS: In the even of me f-ing up my BIOS, is there any way I can save my computer and get it working again? How bad is it to flash the wrong BIOS?

I thought the Rev 3.3 DS3s are now shipping, but they're still including the old instruction manuals in the packaging that say Rev 2 on it. If you want to be sure of the mobo rev you have, look in the upper left hand corner of the board - it will say it in tiny print.

Btw...I think F10 is the latest bios.

I'd still like to know how bad it will be if I flash the wrong BIOS and is it something that can be undone?

If you want to O/C it past 2.8-3 gHz, you're gonna need overclocking ram or higher speed ram. I would just buy an e4300 instead. With that ram, an e4300 can get up to 3.6gHz before the ram is even running at stock speeds

You were right. I looked at my board and it says Rev 3.3 with tiny letters.

Guess I can just go ahead and OC away...

I was debating on ordering my DS3 from Newegg or from another site that only sells rev3.3s - I would prefer ordering from Newegg since I sort of have a $175 credit I need to burn up there in the next week (to avoid restock fees on a RMA). If Newegg is shipping DS3's rev3.3 at a reliable rate now I can go ahead and order it and a HDD and stop worrying about it!

I do have a question on these boards, maybe someone experienced can answer. I keep reading about some type of IDE issue. Is there going to be a problem with me running a SATA HD and having 2 IDE dvd burners in dma mode? Are all recent core2duo boards having IDE problems or just some?
