Looks like infection from an ingrown fingernail. I get these from time to time, because I have a bad habit of biting my nails till they bleed, then when they grow back they get infected.

Just make sure you don't have a red line running up your arm originating from this finger. I had that happen once and I had to go to the hospital and get treated for blood poisoning (which is basically just a saline drip and antibiotics).

Looks infected. As mentioned above, go see a doc if it hasn't been cleared from draining and alchohol/bacitracin in a couple days. There's some nasty stuff out there that you really don't want to let develop. My (now former) orthodontist lost most of his hand from an infection he got cutting a fish.

I had one of those about a month ago.
It was pretty painful. If I squeezed it extremely hard (hurt like hell), a tiny amount of puss would pop out between the nail side and the skin.

I stabbed alcohol down there every few days, with a Q-Tip and after about 2 weeks it went away.

I now have another one forming on another finger. Weird...

edit: upon second glance, it looks more like a fingernail infection. do you wash your hands regularly after you go to the bathroom, have dirty hands during work, or bite your nails/suck your fingers?

go see your medical doctor... it could spread to your finger or hand.

Perhaps you smashed it at work without realizing it? you did say you lay blocks.... those things are rough, perhaps something from the blocks became imbedded and infected it.

Ok, I woke up this morning, and my middle finger on my left hand was kind of "throbbing" and a little "stinging" sensation. Got to looking at it and it is swollen.

I did not mash / stub / or injure the finger in any way. It just "started" to swell and get extremely sore.

Anyone here have any ideas what the issue is ? I sterilized a needle and tried puncturing it to drain, stabbed it 3 times, however nothing comes out. I have only been to the doctor once or twice in the last 4 years. I just never have any health problems. Well....except for physicals and routine checkups. But anyway....here are the pics.

Here are a few pics. One of the pics compares it to my middle finger on my right hand.

This happened to me before. Go to the doctor, get it popped and drained, then they'll put a little piece of gauze underneath the skin so it doesn't close up and fill up again. Most likely a bacterial infection. Give it a few days and it'll really be puffy.

Yeah, most likely paronychia. Just ignore it for a few days. If it's not gone within the week, go see a doctor.

I bite my nails something vicious. Just a bad habit I've had since I was little, I get these all the time from ripping a nail to hard and what not. They're not that big of a deal.

Wikipedia says to soak it in epsom salts and drain it, but I think you may just want to go to a clinic and have them do it so you don't spread the infection.

You're a block layer...so the cure is in your hands daily...just smash the hell out of that finger at work...let work comp take care of it...:p

It does look like an ingrown fingernail, or possibly a "hang nail."
