Ok, I woke up this morning, and my middle finger on my left hand was kind of "throbbing" and a little "stinging" sensation. Got to looking at it and it is swollen.

I did not mash / stub / or injure the finger in any way. It just "started" to swell and get extremely sore.

Anyone here have any ideas what the issue is ? I sterilized a needle and tried puncturing it to drain, stabbed it 3 times, however nothing comes out. I have only been to the doctor once or twice in the last 4 years. I just never have any health problems. Well....except for physicals and routine checkups. But anyway....here are the pics.

Here are a few pics. One of the pics compares it to my middle finger on my right hand.

Possibly an ingrown nail? My big toes do that sometimes if I'm too overzealous with the nail clippers.

infection, just don't be a puss and squeeze that shit out or lance it. my right middle finger tip is bigger than my left middle finger tip from a baseball smashing it when I used to play in high school.

ibuprofen will help with the inflammation. It does look like an infection though. I'm not a doctor fwiw =)

Is that a bee sting on the side? It kind of looks like a beesting.

Yea, I have been trying that. Sterile needle and punctured it 3 times. And I know I went deep enough lol. But nothing comes out. In the last picture, you can see the "red dots" where I punctured it.

My ring finger did that about a month back and it went down on its own after a few days.

Bug bite? (guessing by the raised red marks in the last pic, unless that's where you stabbed yourself) Try some benadryl and ibuprofen. May need antibiotics if your body doesn't fight off the infection.

I dont think randomly stabbing it with a needle is going to make it feel better, although feel free to carry on if youre enjoying it.

edit: infected nail or cellulitis is my guess.

Nah, it it impossible to be a bug bite. I almost actually sat and witnessed it getting bigger and more sore over the hours.

But I do remember "before bed and after a shower" that I was trimming my nails. But nothing seemed sore as I was doing that or after the trimming.

I've read that "sometimes" soaking in salt water can help. I am going to try that and some Benadryl.

One other possibility is gout. Similar thing happened to my co-worker.

If it were to be an ingrown nail....even though it would swell....would it contain liquid "fluid puss" ? Maybe .. maybe not ?

Probably varies. My ingrown nails have historically had pus, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just swelling.

I agree about the infection. It may be deep in the nail bed or down in the dermis near the bone. Often an infection will not have puss to drain, or it may be solid in its mass. If not cleared up in 3 days - make a dr appt. Depending on your DR you may want to do that now, and cancel if it clears up.

You are doing it wrong. The infectoin is under the skin around the nail. Take the needle lift up your cuticle on your nail and puncture down in there. You'll feel it because it will hurt quite a bit more than just puncturing the outside.

That's correct if its Paronychia.
