Calling all DJs

I'm putting together a presentation about a paper on a DJ system for digital music. I am looking for a diagram or picture of a typical DJ setup, labeled if possible. Basically am just looking for a DJ layout, with the turntables and mixing board and such. Any have any pictures? I've looked around online and I can find a lot of pictures of the individual components, but I'm looking for some shots of everything together, as a DJ would have it setup for a performance. Thanks.

Turntablelab.com.

A typical setup will consist of:

Two turntables (preferrably Technics 1200)
A mixer
Needles for the turntables
Records etc
Speakers

Check out djmart.com, turntablelab.com.

How are those tables?

I got myself a pair of Tech 1200 m3ds. I'm just trying to save up money to pick up a mixer. My tables sit alone in the closet waiting to be played with 🙁

Are those the newest Pioneers that act the same as TTs?

Actually those look like mk1s... check this out though...

DVJ-X1

PIONEER LAUNCHES REVOLUTIONARY DVJ-X1
BRINGING VIDEO ENTERTAINMENT TO THE DJ EXPERIENCE

LONG BEACH (November 13, 2003) ? Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. today announced the future of DJ technology with its new DVJ-X1 digital audio and video turntable. This groundbreaking product allows users to manipulate and playback synchronized digital audio and video in a way that will revolutionize the DJ industry.

By imitating the form and functionality of Pioneer?s digital CD turntables like the CDJ-1000MK2, Pioneer is making it simple for digital DJs to adapt to the new product. DVJs will be able to use Pioneer?s new unit to manipulate DVD visuals in exactly the same way as they would music. So real-time digital video scratches, loops and instant cues are all possible with the DVJ-X1, while the video and audio streams always stay in perfect sync, even when they?re being reversed and pitched.

How do those high tech turntablish looking things work? Is the record underneath there and you use the big raised, grippy section for scratching?

BTW everyone, thanks a lot, all the links you've put up are exactly what I'm looking for.

But the scratching isn't as good as a traditional setup? I imagine it would be different with CDs just because you don't get the same tactile feedback at the very least. What are the advantages of DJing with records vs CDs?

go to www.futureproducers.com

my system is: 2 stanton str8-80s (ok, but my first set), an ok mixer, denon dn-s5000 (dope ass cd dj, better than the pioneer ones!), 2 mackie srm450s, 2 mackie srs1500s, and a bunch of recs. but i dont have a pic of my setup yet. the above website has threads of ppl's setups and all.

i gotta build a dj table to house all my sh!t.

With the advent of technology like final scratch Link and the tradionally high costs associated with pressing and distributing vinyl. A medium where DJ's could purchase high quality mp3's of new releases IMO could be very successful as long as the artists see a fair return on their tracks. The typical product cycle for vinyl (at least in the techno scene) is somewhere around 6-8 months before an artist even sees any royalties from their release assuming sales even recoup the initial investment to bing the product to market. I have had similar ideas and would be in favor of seeing some kind of system like this created. With the typical cost of vinyl ranging from $6 for domestic releases and upwards of $12 for imports with the artists seeing little return for their investment this could provide an easier method for obtaining music as well as more fairly compensating artists for their work. In the end both the artist and the end user would win except for the distributors but in the techno scene there have been 2 major distributors that have folded in the last year so something new needs to emerge.

edit: Also I think DJ Supply has some pics of DJ packages available too Link

Well nothing can beat learning on vinyl... but ive seen it done on the cdjs and its pretty damn good. 🙂

The deck itself has a lot of features to help you out when you're in trouble... like memorizing up to 3 cue points per cd ... 😉

Check out this demo... 😀
