I have my own set of fins that I take with me whenever I go on vacation in a place I can snorkel, which is typically like 2-4 times a year. The ones I have are an older model of these ones here:

I got them in like 2010 and they are still fine. However they are apparently scuba fins and I've now just decided I want to get new ones. When I bought them I got them because I think they looked cool for the most part, and I liked wearing the shoes and having them strap over top of them.

Well, there is some downside to this, considering I only snorkel and have only dove once. First of all, these are pretty damn heavy fins. The fins are heavy, but then I also have to wear the shoes which makes it even heavier. I definitely feel this when I'm snorkeling and the back of my knees typically get tired/sore but it's something that I just go through. It isn't to the point it is bothersome and I can't snorkel, but I definitely feel it, especially when I start. Additionally, they make my luggage heavier and sometimes it's tough to get just under 50lbs.

So I'm basically just asking for suggestions/recommendations for some snorkel fins since I really don't know much about it. I don't even really know what the split ones do vs. non-split ones. I also am pretty open to getting ones that are full foot so I don't have to wear shoes when snorkeling too. I do want to get something that is presumably quite a bit more light weight than the ones I have, although I also want to get good power out of them when snorkeling.

And while on the subject, if anyone has a recommendation for a good snorkel, I may get a new one of those as well since mine is just old and worn down at this point. It also fits kind of weird with the new prescription mask I got.

I've always preferred full foot fins. I.e., no bootie etc.

They are quite a bit longer and more flexible than regular dive fins.

Here's something to what I had. Mine were called "speed fins". http://www.divers-supply.com/mares-...10301SA044BK&gclid=CNf_-5CCjNQCFU02gQodQBwC_w

I think they were, at that time, mostly for free diving and snorkeling.

As far as the back of your knees. with my speed fins I found a relaxed kicking motion preferable. I.e. let the long fins do the work.

I didn't realize this until like a few days ago, but my fins being Scuba fins actually are angled at an angle to help make it easier when fully submerged as well. They aren't meant to be on the surface so that could explain some of it.

I'm looking at these ones for the time being and think I'll probably take the plunge on them. Also Leisure Pro has a good return policy if they don't fit which is nice.
