Calling all CRT gamers

I'm interested in those few of us that still use CRTs for gaming. I am planning on moving to a 24inch LCD in the next few months but for right now, I couldn't be happier on my Sony 21incher. After it warms up for a few minutes, i get deep blacks and great spot on colors and instant no lag gaming. My favorite thing is I can play Crysis at 1280x1024 @55fps then switch to 1600x1200 for less demanding game.

Although I am facing a major problem with many DX 10 games that don't support refresh rates. I have to use Powerstrip to force it to a higher refresh rates so my eyes don't bleed. Nothing else seems to work pas DX 9 games. Anyone else have this problem?

I have gotten used to the 60Hz refresh rate, and it doesn't give me a head ache anymore. I found that CCC would reset my refresh rate to 60Hz after I have changed it to 85Hz in the past, although I think this was fixed with a later version of the software.

As for games resetting the refresh back to 60Hz, I will have to check. I'll see what some of the newer games I have do when i start them up.

The best way to fix this issue is to modify your monitor inf file and remove all the low refresh modes. Windows will never output them automatically because it thinks your monitor doesn't support them. I haven't seen 60hz or 75hz in years since I did this.

This is easier in XP than Vista or 7 due to the unsigned driver issues, but it should be possible there too with some work.

Thanks. I never thought of that. Are there any guides or resources that tell me how to do this? Is it under system32 folder?
