As for fitness, I got a nice treadmill. Parked it in front of the TV and do about an hour a day. If I didnt have the mental distraction I'd only last 15 minutes, and it would be a lot of speeding up, slowing down nonsense which probably wouldnt help me at all.
Also, like other folks have said: You already know what to do. Its not rocket science. The trick is discipline. You need to turn down that fourth Whopper with cheese. You need to get proper running shoes, shorts, t-shirts and actually go outside the house for a while. You actually need to do that 3-4 times a week. And keep doing it. If you are having specific troubles talk to a nutritionist.
Another thing to note: Fat and slob are not exactly the same thing but are often found together. Being fit and slim is just one part of your overall appearance. If you take pride in yourself it shows up all over the place.
Shave every morning. Wash and comb your scuzzy hair. Wear decent clothes unless doing physical labor. Learn how to properly wear jewelery and cologne. (In my opinion, males need very little of either and only on a date or clubbing.)
Its all about self-image and if you care about yourself you wont just worry about one thing, like body fat. You'll try harder on everything and get more motivated in the process.
The exercise endorphins or whatever will help you to feel good about yourself too.
