I've noticed something odd in the last year or so, that if I'm out in 'summer' sunlight (ie. the sort that one needs to worry about getting sunburn), and it doesn't have to be for very long (say 30-60 minutes), that I end up feeling really lethargic mentally and physically for hours afterwards.

I'm wondering whether it is since I started shaving my head. I have been going bald for years (except back and sides), but it's only been for about a year that I've started shaving my hair really short (the shortest setting on my hair shaver).

I know from a sunburn-on-scalp point of view that I should keep my head covered in this sort of weather. I always drink plenty of fluids (and I've not been trying to drink more because it's summer), so I doubt that has anything to do with it. I'm wondering whether me not covering my head from the sun might be the problem. Obviously I'll try that next time, but I'm wondering whether anyone else with no/shaven hair has noticed a similar problem.

I would be very shocked if that is coming from shaving your head bald. Its probably something else and its just a coincidence. I would consult a doctor, also make sure you are getting plenty of fluids.

Yeah you need to see a doc. I doubt covering your head is going to help with lethargy. That said you should cover it anyway or at least use sunblock to prevent sunburn if you're out in the sun for long.

Lethargy might be from dehydration and heat exhaustion (common in the summer heat). By heat exhaustion I mean your blood vessels expand when overheated and if you're dehydrated that can cause your blood pressure to drop. Do you feel dizzy or just tired?

It can also be caused by low blood sugar.

You can get an electronic blood pressure monitor and blood glucose meter over the counter at the pharmacy and test yourself when you feel lethargic.

The problem with going to the doc is that if you get your blood tested when you feel fine, these types of tests will show a false negative. You need to be tested when you actually feel this way because of the high variability of blood glucose and blood pressure.

You should still go to the doc to test everything else though so the doctor can listen to your heart, your lungs, and get a medical history from you to get a proper diagnosis.

i have been shaving my head for almost 20 years.

I would say do this: if you know you are going to be outside for a while, make sure you have a had available. Maybe go hatless for 20 minutes or so if you need some color, then wear your hat.

Here's why. Skin cancer. As you get older, if you were active outdoors, you may start getting sunspots or skin cancer b/c you arent fully aware of how much sun your head gets...and it is more sensitive than say, your forearm.
