We are booked to go on a Princess Cruise in November to the Western Caribbean.
This will be the first cruise for both me and the wife and I was just going through the pre-cruise documents. Most of my questions were answered by the brochure but I have some concerns as far as alcohol is concerned.
I like to drink, and that doubles as a truth when I am on vacation. I was looking at the in-room prices and they are around $20.00 for 350ML bottles of mid-shelf liquor like Absolut, Jack Daniels, Smirnoff, etc. Now thats not OVERLY bad, only about a 200% markup from regular local store prices, which I can deal with.
What I am concerned about, is how much they might charge for bottles of top-shelf liquor like Grey Goose, Belvedere, Johnnie Walker Black, etc. Or if they even have them available.
And even more, how much they might be charging for drinks at the bars/restaurants/casino/nightclubs/pool etc.
The contract states that no alcohol is allowed to be brought onboard with the exception of a bottle of wine or champagne to be consumed in the room, at a limit of one bottle per person. (if you want to consume it in public there is a $15 corkage fee mandatory)
We are going in a group and would like to have a few drinks amongst ourselves in the room during the day while people get ready, nap, etc. So we were thinking of bringing some of our own liquor onboard to consume in our room.
I have no problem paying for drinks onboard when its necessary like when we are at dinner, bar, club at night, etc. but would like to trim some costs by not paying premium drink prices all day.
Now to the question:
Has anyone who has been on a cruise tried bringing bottles onboard inside their luggage or on their person? If they caught you, did they confiscate it or give it back to you at the end?
I was thinking about buying some cheap screw cap bottles of wine in a dark bottle, emptying the wine and refilling with our choice of liquor. Anyone have thoughts on this? Cruise personnel are surely aware of this trick?
Cliffs:
Going on cruise
Would rather not pay exorbitant drink prices all cruise long
Anyone brought liquor on board and get away with it?
PS For those who plan on replying "Dont drink" -- dont bother.
