Calling all ATOT Smart Shoppers re: Furniture

I don't believe this. We have snobs from every other genre known to man. No one can answer the furniture question, huh.

If your looking for furniture that will last 10-20 years, then Raymour & Flanigan is ok. If your looking for cheap furniture, then try Bob's

You can get some good deals at local closeout stores and places that sell used furniture, all depends on what your looking for.

I bought a couch for $250 and two large bookcases for $60 at an estate sale, where the owners died and the family needed to get rid of everything.

Heavy bulky furniture is always best to get local. Craigslist may have some good items too.

Have to agree with your fiancee about new bedding and couches. Wood, sure, used is great, maybe even much better than new. But upholstered stuff? New.

Modular sofa....the weakness is you have to have that sort of space if/when you move to use it fully again. A more traditional sofa and loveseat combo is more easily arranged. But if you've got the space for that modular and will have it for years, why not?

last time i purchased furniture (besides office furniture or a bed) was in college. My dad and step-mom tend to buy new stuff every few years and i get the old stuff. its still looks great and its not cheap stuff.

hmm i did buy some nice wood dresser from a auction a few years ago.

We bought ours from Ethan Allen and Macys. But I think Costco has good bang for buck furniture. Sure it's mostly from China but what isn't.

Oh, I'm not a fan of the sofa in your link. I think it's ugly and outdated.

Most of the stuff from Bob's Discount Furniture is junk.

I get most of my nice stuff from Pilgrim Furniture (another regional New England chain), and hit up Ikea when I just want something cheap that I know is going to get destroyed anyway.

Did you just call your own furniture junk? D:
😀

Bob's and R&F sell made in China junk.

Crate and Barrel and CB2 (Crate and Barrel 2) sell good furniture. Most is made in USA, much in North Carolina, the rest in Europe. CB2 is a bit more contemporary, and likely smaller pieces as it appears to be more oriented towards apartment dwellers than Crate and Barrel.

If you live in Jersey, just make a trip to soho and check out all of the furniture shops. You won't find the big puffy microfiber stuff that you linked to, but you'll find much better made furniture around the same price range that is way more attractive in my opinion.

A couple times a year the local crate and barrel changes over its furniture. You can get stuff then for <50% it's normal cost.

i got a ton of high end furniture from Lane's and Domain before their stores went out of business in PA. if you got time, you should try and find stores like this going out of business but you may not have all the time in the world to shop like this

I think that's my ultimate question is.... How do I know if it's high end or not?

You must not know any women who have germ issues. My fiancee says new or bust when it comes to sofas and beds; and I'm inclined to agree.

Get an old sofa and restuff/resurface. You get better frame and update the fabric/stuffing.
