I need a performance gaming card that is dual-link (not dual dvi- dual-link) compatible. Some manufacturers have released cards that don't document the fact they have dual TMDS built in. (PNY 6600GT, for instance.)

I'm looking at the HSI ATI boards and their 850 claims dual TMDS it but I'm not sure if the 800 series does as well.

Here's a pic of the HSI X800XL

Look in the upper left, sandwiched between the purple capacitors- I believe those gray square chips to be the dual TMDS. Can anyone confirm this? Does your card have these chips?, what make/card is it?

TMDS chips typically look like this not like that so I could be completely wrong. I don't see any chip on there that resembles a TMDS otherwise.

Ok, thanks for the info. I've been googling images. I'm running with the theory that X800XL or above are undocumented but have dual TMDS. I'm going to try to find one at Fry's for an easy return in case I'm being a dingbat.

I'll report back!

Well for giggles I bought an x850 xt. I can confirm those chips are TMDS, however they are of the single variety, one for each connector. The highest resolution, as such, is 2048x1536.

Why a $200 6600GT would be capable of this while the uber high-end cards aren't is beyond me. What a disappointment. :(

i think only FireGl cards, Cuadro cards, and the 6800 U 512mb version have dual-link

Officially, sure. However the Asus 9999GE, Dell 6800GTO and PNY 6600GT have all proven to have undocumented dual-link capability. I was trying to explore the uber high end cards to see if some smart company decided to throw in dual-link TMDS without contacting the marketing department. I still bet one of them has it. Finding it is another thing. I may be forced into the 6800GTO but I don't have PCI-E, so I'd need to swap motherboards as well..

Well there was some speculation as ATi listed dual-link transmitters as being on their X850XT PE cards, but most manufacturers have said that they aren't dual-link.
