Assuming I'm not overclocking, why should I buy the Asus V7700 over a cheaper GF2 GTS card?

The Asus V7700 Deluxe has Video In and Out. What does this really mean? Can I hook up my analog camcorder to the thing through an S-video cable?

Why did you buy the V7700 Deluxe and what do you use it for?

Thanks.

If you have to think about Pure vs Deluxe, you don't need the Deluxe because you're not sure if you want vid in/out. Why pay more for something you don't really know u need/want?

Just my opinion and that's how I ended up with the Pure

I really don't know why I bought the asus (I don't oc too)....
I think because it's a familair brand... I trust them a sort of because the products of asus I've got are all good products.
And the monitoring utility is nice... you can see how hot your card is etc...

Asus V7700 drivers do not work in Win ME. Asus is working on a new driver set, but so far it is not released.

So, if you are going to ME . . . be advised.

SkyDiver,

Yes you can just svid in your camcorder to the deluxe model...when you consider the card space you save over a Hauppage etc, and the cash it comes out to be worth it if you use the vid in/out features, I do not own a 7700, I used to have a 6600 deluxe in mine, I went to a CLA 2 GTS, but the 6600's vid cap was great while I needed it, I sold to a friend who was ditching his v3 3500 (joke)TV for about $100 less than the CLA 2.

bought the 6600 since I was in some vid editing classes in college and sold it when I finished, and my friend has a hobby of amking vids so it worked out for us both.

Thanks for your help everybody. Special thanks to Arthurb1, this is exactly what I wanted to know. I'd like to capture images from my camcorder and put them on my website so our relatives 1,000 and 2,000 miles away can view them easily.

Plus the ASUS seems to be quality made unlike many of the others. Hercules, Elsa, and CL seem to be okay too.

Personally, I'm going to get the Radeon 64MB VIVO. It has video in and out, but no tuner like the all-in-wonder ones. Thats good for me since I don't need the tuner. The Radeon has image quality that is only second to Matrox, and FSAA that is only beat by the V5. Between the fact that the V5 has inferior image quality and performance, and there is nothing from Matrox, the Radeon is the logical choice.

I have gotten sick of the 2d quality from the nvidia cards, its not the chips but rather the RFI filtering crap that screws it up. I am looking for a good electronics soldering person to do the mods for me, make mine look good.

Now, I will say this, the vids are not TV quality (you lose some of the edges and stuff like that, and sometimes it will not fill a screen, BUT for the price, plus you get a screaming 3d card, it is just hard to beat. I would like a VIVO Raedon, but I think that I am going to wait for the NV20 to come out, and the prices drop on the Raedons, or see how much the NV20's are....then again, I may just wait for the prod after NV20...

The Nvidia Reference drivers work well in WinME. The ASUS drivers as previously mentioned caused many lock outs when running D3D games.

I have V6800 Pure, I don't know how much speed do you want more, I get dizzy with mine....not overclock, it runs like crazy, blazing speed, using default asus driver 3.79 for Windows 2000 Pro. I have PIII 700MHz(not overclocked) 256 PC100 SDRAM, Maxtor 20GB 7200rpm, ASUS P3V4X(1005)for my mobo, default in BIOS, except for fastwrite enabled, and sideband set to "ON" Via4-24 AGP Driver.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I read another question about 2D quality, or lack thereof, on the GF2's. Saw a lot of pro and con on the issue and am not sure which to believe. How are the ASUS boards re. 2D quality?

I ordered one and am now experiencing a small amount of post-purchase dissonance! (Haven't used that term since Marketing 101 10+ years ago!)

Thanks.
