I have a 2007 TL-S.
When I was filling the gas for my car a few days ago, I didn't see a small (spring) metal flap, covering the gas tank where I stick the fuel nozzle into, after I removed the gas cap. The flap (sorry, I don't know the official name), I think, is supposed to prevent any gas fume from coming back out while refueling.

I remembered it was there the last time I put gas into my car. I fear that the metal flap might have broken off and fell into the gas tank.

I asked the dealer mechanic and he said the car is not supposed to have a metal flap. He even showed me a new 2008 TL and it doesn't have one either. But I swear my car had one.

I am wondering if you can check your car and see if you have the metal flap there. If there is, I want to get it fix right away while it is still covered under warranty.

Thanks a lot.

Checking right now....

HA! I'm missing mine as well. There's a slot to where it is supposed to be mounted, but no flap.

While I can't say for your model, I know on my 1999 Grand Prix there is no flap. That was mainly used on the early models, before OBD II came into use. With the way fuel systems are plumbed, with fuel return lines and check valves, you really do not need the flap any longer.
