Time to upgrade to a windows based fixed assets program :) The 8 year old dos based one we have just isn't quite as user friendly as it used to be.

Unfortunately, I am not an accountant, nor do I used the software, but luckily I have been put in charge of at least finding some potential replacement products.

Soooo....I am drawing on the vast knowledge of Anandtech and it's members to give me a couple FA packages to consider.

Thanks!

Peachtree?

I'm not an accountant, but I had to install and make that program work for an accountant. :p

:)

Peachtree is more of a "swiss army knife" of accounting software. I'm looking for a program that is specifically designed to do fixed assets only.

There's tons of software out there, but we actually just use massive Excel spreadsheets, even though our company is pretty large (3000+ employees at 8 locations).

I think the main motivation for using Excel, though, has always been that we did not need to buy additional software. Accountants tend to be very cheap and Scrooge-like. :p

Accountants are tightasses? Blaspheme! :D :D :D

Excel huh? That sounds like a boat load of formulas...too confusing, which leads me to another attributes of some accountants - lazy :)

Thanks Kranky. I've already downloaded Best and the Asset Manager from Onesquared. "Asset Boy" is playing with them as we speak.

What size of comapny and what volume of transactions are you expecting? For general use, most of the "standard" accoutning packages have decent fixed asset packages. If you want a full-fledged fixed asset system that generates asset tags with bar codes, handles tax and accounting depreciation and otther extra features then most of the standard accounting packages wouldn't handle it. The really top line accounting packages (like SAP and Oracle) have pretty strong and integrated fixed asset packages.

I'm used to large company packages ($500 million +), but I can check and find out what some of the better packages are for smaller volume.

They use Bests - FAS at our company. They like it and say it does everything they need it too. We're a $150M /year company.
