OK, I am thinking about purchasing an EVGA 8800GTS (G92). Hopefully I can still get enough money to break even for my Sapphire HD2900XT 1GB.

What I'm wanting to know is, how many FPS do you COD4 players get on average with all of the in-game settings turned all the way up. It would be great if one or two of you gamed on 22" Widescreens @ 1680x1050 like me so I could get some real comparisons. So, at 1680x1050, with AA turned to 4x, all the eye candy turned on, how many FPS do you get?

You should have no problems. Even on my E6600 4GB setup (@356), running a 8800GT overclocked to 675, I have all the setting maxed out with no slowdowns whatsoever.

I don't have any problems with my 1GB HD2900XT either. I have everything maxed out on 1680x1050 and I achieve about 45-65FPS. I just want a little more horsepower. Basically, I want to run the single player mission with all of the eye candy turned all the way up. That's the only way to play IMO. For multiplayer, I turn some settings down to reach more FPS.

I'm just wondering how many FPS I would get if I cranked all the settings up on the 8800GTS (G92). Would the frames be similar to the 8800GTX? I would like to get around 85-125FPS with everything maxed which is possible on a 20.1" Widescreen, I'm just not sure if it's really possible for my 22" Widescreen.

I was locked at 60FPS on both the 8800GT @ 729/1000 and on my GTX @ 600/1000 in multiplayer, although I play multi at 1600x1200 (everything maxed, no AA). FPS only dropped occasionally with air strikes or explosions, although turning off soft shadows makes that go away.

In SP at 1920x1200 with everything cranked up, no AA, FPS will drop to 30-40 for a good portion of the game with either card. At 1680 you should be fine though.

8800gts512 faster than an 8800ultra in cod4 here....

this xbit article has an overclocked 8800gt 512 showing you the impact of 702/1728/950. about 20% - which basically puts it on par with the 768mb 8800gtx's performance. this is what most 8800gt owners are ocing to, if not higher, because the temps stay low with higher fan speed.

It must be your resolution that's dogging you that much. A buddy of mine runs at 1680x1050 with a stock 8800GTX, 2GB DDR2-800, E6600 (stock) and gets an average of about 80FPS at almost all times when everything is cranked. I didn't realize the increase of resolution would make THAT big of a difference. Not to mention, he has AA turned to 4. Strange...
