Caller ID from your cell phone?

I'm browsing around for a new cell phone company (currently with Verizon; considering T-Mobile) and was wondering how your name appears on other people's landline caller ID displays.

I use my cell phone as my only phone, so it would be nice if my actual name showed up on a landline display when I called other people. For example, my sister uses Sprint, and when she calls my parents, her name actually shows up on their landline caller ID display at home, instead of my phone, which just displays "Cellular Call."

I've called Verizon, and they're unable to make my name show up on caller ID. Do any other companies besides Sprint offer this neat and useful feature?

When I use to have Cingular, it would display the name of the caller on the caller ID. If my mom would call the house it would Says Katie's Cell and the number on the caller id screen.

Cool, thanks! I've heard that Cingular blows chunks in the Ann Arbor area, but I'll keep that in mind. :)

Well, you could always just try it. Don't all carriers have a 14 day return policy, non-binding to the contract?

Good point - that might be the way to go, but I don't want to have 3 different cell phone credit checks in one week. I think that would look pretty horrible on my credit report.

Do any of your other friends have different cell phone plans? maybe you guys could switch phones for a few days and see how things work.

isnt it enough just to have the phone number in the addressbook and then that name will show up?

My girlfriend has sprint, but I'm most interested in seeing if T-Mobile has the feature, since I've heard really good things about their service in Ann Arbor. I'll ask around.

But when you call a landline phone with caller ID, it doesn't work that way. It displays whatever your cell phone provider chooses to display. In Sprint's case it's the name of the person on the account. In Verizon's case, it's the phrase "Cellular Call," which sucks. :)

i actually wished the name didn't show up. For a long while my account was under my grandfather's name, so his would show up every time I made a call. Then in March Cingular changed their system and enabled the name to show up on landline caller IDs (of course my grandfather's name). Now my account is in my name, so its all fine and dandy..but my dad recently added a familytalk line to my account, so as I understand it, my name will show up on calls he makes (they didn't ask me what his name was). I've heard that this is always the case.

Yup, that's how CELL PHONE caller ID works - I don't think the wireless network is set up to do cell-to-cell NAME display, only number. It sucks, and it would have been a REALLY nice thing to implement at first, but I'm sure it's too late to 'retrofit' it now.

Someone who's more knowledgeable than me might be able to reinforce or shoot me down.

I have a reigonal carrier, however I roam on Verizon's network. When I call my parents, my full name appears on their Caller ID display. When I'm on my home network, it usually displays the right number, but sometimes it'll display the incorrect name.

I have friends with Verizon cellular phone service, when they call me on my cell phone, I get "private call" or "caller ID withheld".

When I call a land line with my Verizon cell, it says "Twin Cities, MN," along with my number, unless I block it with a *67, or tell a Verizon CSR to turn on the block for all of my calls. I'm perfectly fine with the way it works, personally.

Sprint displays the name of the account holder. My dad's name is on my account, so his name appears on people's caller IDs when I call people. Unless, you know, they have a cellphone too, in which case they could make "dumbfvck" appear if they so chose.
