caller id displays different name

just got a prepaid cell. virgin mobile arc. when i call my land line, the caller id displays someone elses name.

is there any way to have it display my name? i find it difficult to believe that out of the millions of cell phones in use today, that i am the only one with this dilemma.
 
call customer service and see if they'll change it for free. Some providers will, some charge you a fee. More than likely another person had the number before you and the name stuck even when they canceled service.
 
i've been back and forth woth VM for 2 days. they want mr to contact the fcc and my local provider to have it changed.

isn't VM (or sprint who bought them) considered the local provider?
 
there is a database that stores all that information. at work, we contact a department "dbac", i don't know what the acronym is for. but they have to update their database. the tech support at VM should contact them for you. it is their responsibility.
