Call to see if I got the job?

So I got called Monday to interview for an internship w/IBM. Interviewed Wednesday, went really well. They will make a decision by Friday, supposedly. Towards the end of the day on Friday, should I call and talk to the lady who interviewed me? She's very nice and I don't think she would mind.

I just don't think I could stand going all weekend without knowing for sure if I got the job or not. I'm very excited about this possibility and if I get this job it means I don't have to work three part-time jobs this summer to pay the bills.

Opinions?

You can call, just don't hammer them. They may not have an answer, but it is accepted practice to call for an update.

If you decide to call, call before 4. Most corporate IT folks either leave early or work from home on Fridays.

sounds too soon. I would try Monday morning just before noon. BTW, is this paid or non-paid ? Extreme Blue program ?

I think they are trying to fill the position quickly, which is why my *DON'T BOTHER THEM* alarm hasn't gone off. And in any other circumstance, I wouldn't call until Monday. But if they don't call Friday, I'll think I didn't get the job and be disappointed/pissed off when in all reality something could've happened & they don't call till Monday. :(

I REALLY want this job, it would make my life so much easier for the next 6 months. Mucho denero, no classes in the fall, fun & challenging work environment. Whereas right now I work 10 hours/week doing stupid IT stuff for the Agriculture dept on campus, do "marketing" stuff for a software company (where I do nothing most of the time), and I was going to start @ BBY part-time again to save money to replace my old car. All of this could be replaced by IBM.....

I think this time the hiring manager will probly call me to let me know, at least from what she told me. Where did you work for IBM? I'd be in Research Triangle Park, in NC. If she says they're making the decision by Friday, would I hear from the "HR" ppl on Friday? Thx

wait till you start interviewing for full time jobs after college, it can take weeks before you find out.

I'm sure that will be killer, but at least I'll have more options. I had several good leads @ IBM in April/early May, but they went into a hiring freeze so I scrambled to find enough work to make $ this summer. Now I've interviewed for 2 IBM internships this week, one for 3-6 months starting now & the other Aug-Dec. When it rains it pours...

they will call you as soon as it's decided - calling back is pointless.

It takes big companies like IBM forever to make hiring decisions. Personally, I wouldn't call back until Monday afternoon.

Why are you wanting to intern at a place that had a pretty good size layoff a few weeks ago.

just wait, I recently interviewed for a co-op with NUMMI out in Fremont, CA(i'm a M.E.) and I just waited for their call, sure enough they called 2 days earlier than they said they would, once the do call, whether it be yes or no, be thankful and send an email to the person who you interviewed with, cuz you may interview with them again.

Bottom line: I'd wait til wednesday if you dont hear anything to call.

Those layoffs were in Europe and this is for a set 3 or 6 month position. I'm not 100% sure I would want to work there for a career, I just need something to put on the resume and something to put money in the bank!

Call Monday. Knowing IBM you might get an answer by Mid June (you think I'm joking)

Don't call til monday. When I had a phone interview for an internship at IBM, it was the hiring manager that interviewed me and he was the one that called me back 2-3 weeks later. And it wasn't to tell me they were offering me the job, it was to ask me what day I could start working. Big companies take a while, lots of paper work to get files. But once the ball starts rolling, it goes quickly.
