Is World at War still populated? What is it's current state?

I remember hopping on maybe a year ago. There were two, maybe three servers with people playing. I imagine you'll be hard-pressed to find people to play with.

CoD 4 probably has more players than WaW.

The only people who play WAW now are cheaters sadly. Best COD game IMO.

Bad Company 2 is still quite populated. Many people prefer it over BF3 and BF4.

You don't need to do anything. If you have BC2 on Steam or Origin, then you will have the latest version and you can simply launch the game and look at the server browser.

I'm not sure what game-mode is most popular, but Rush was definitely the most fun when I played it. It's much more interesting and exciting than boring old Conquest mode. Plus, in BC2 the maps are actually designed really well for Rush, unlike BF3 where it's more of an after-thought.

Unfortunately the Vietnam expansion is pretty much dead, but there should be plenty of people playing the vanilla game. Bad Company 2 was the last Battlefield game that avoided releasing multiple paid DLC so it didn't fragment the player-base, which IMO is a sin.

If you have a boxed copy of the game, plug the CD key into Origin and you should be able to download the latest version of the game.

Sorry... that's all I can tell you. It's been years since I've used boxed copies of games without any auto-patching/updating service. If you want to manually search online and hunt for the latest updates, then you're on your own. That concept is old to me.
