AlphaOmegaSin's thoughts are pretty spot on. Pretty profanity laced though.

The "MLG Call of Duty: Ghosts" tournament will feature the top five "Call of Duty" teams based on MLG Pro Points plus the top three teams from the "Call of Duty" championship held in Winter Park, Fla., last month. The eight teams will compete in a double-elimination group format, with four teams advancing to a single-elimination bracket. X Games medals will be awarded to the winning teams.

Why not? People do it with Starcraft..etc. Going pro sounds very time consuming but can make you some money.

I like competitive gaming as much as the next guy. I watch GSL more than anything, but this is crazy.

I don't understand what is crazy or confusing about this? X Games gives medals for the "fringe" sports, and competitive gaming is that. Call of Duty happens to be the biggest American competitive game that isn't LOL or Dota and is super easy to set up.

X games doesn't have any team sports and a lot of the them if not all are very physical or "XTREME!!!!"

So COD or any kind of e-sports doesn't fit all that well. I don't see them adding chess too soon.
