Call of Duty: MW3 deserves way more credit

I understand many people on these forums aren't fond of CoD, and that's totally fine. I don't pay much attention to the series either. However, I did buy MW3 a couple months ago on a whim, and tonight I decided to sit back, relax, and play some singleplayer.

And you know what? They actually did a fantastic job on this game. Ok, so maybe it's not as good as BF3; but still. It actually looks fantastic. Activision had the budget to create an amazingly-detailed AAA title, and it shows. The graphics are astounding. Despite using an old engine, the game's visuals manage to stay on par with the best-looking games of 2011 IMO.

I decided to put the graphics on max settings and take some 1080p screenshots.

The whole game, really, is filled with so much detail and minutiae, you have to wonder just how much time and effort it took to put it all in.

What's even more inventive in MW3 are the new Hyena mechanics. In this really intense level, the objective is to get to the church. But you can't get to the church because there are hyenas in your way.

The game gives you helpful reminders, in case you forget how quicktime events work:

Take that, hyenas! PETA will have a field day with this one.

Those screenshot's are horrible, the foliage looks really low res if you compare to Battlefield 3 and Pia how can you call it 'fancy graphics' seriously both need your eyes checked, either that or you have REALLY low standards in the graphics department.

I disagree with the op about the graphics, but really liked the single player in cod4 and think the final game was a decent conclusion. MW2 I did not like. And the graphics don't bother me because I have a low end system. I am only talking about single player.

This makes me wonder...how do gaming companies get away with copying WoW right down to the interface style...?

And pursuant to that, what's stopping everyone from simply copying CoD in that way? Or should we expect BF4 to look even more like CoD, perhaps approaching the WoW-cloning levels of obviousness?

Not sure why everyone gets so hung up on graphics. I always set my stuff to low if it's multiplayer. If they're just playing casually I guess they'd want it set to high so it's pretty but I'm just there to frag. CS Source has all kinds of annoying props/bloom/etc that gets in the way so I've always used a FPS script like Regnam/Casey's Script.

You've got competitive DMers who are using FOV 120, which gets all fish eyed and makes the game look like crap.

Oh wow. I can kind of understand how you'd miss the sarcasm in 'fancy graphics', because it's dependent on the context of the OP. But the OP is fairly obvious, and you really should have suspected something was up when I implied Time-to-Crate is a valid measurement of game quality...

BF2 had no single player, yet it remains one of the greatest games released to date.

I thought the screenshots were from the original Soldier of Fortune released back in 2001/2000.

Graghips a game do not make, but thats about all thats going for a 'modern' shooter these days. Same guns, maps from similar places, and some graphics. BOOM! 10 million sold.
