Hi I play many games every day liek Battlefield 1942, Unreal 2, Medal of Honour: Spearhead, Mafia, etc. and most games work fine except some have artifacts once in a while (Pollie in some cut scenes in Mafia), and generally i havnet had many problems with ATI Drivers. the most common I get is pure array of vertical lines, that's when i simply reinstall the drivers and wipe all the folders clean usually that fixes things.

Now I played the demo for Call of Duty for 1 week straight no problems...but today I changed my videocard settings to Quality from Performance and Mipmap Level High from Low, and Truform On, from 1024x768 to 1600x1200 to see if my card can cope it....Before I could try it I get BSOD:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
blah blah...

Technical Information:
VIDEOPORT.SYS -- Address F7E5314F...and many other symbols and i have to RESTART MY COMPUTER

I tried changing settings back to original and everythign else nothign works crashes every time.
But i can played other games ever since .... Does anyone know if ATI Drivers have a problem with CAll of Duty??? Should I install Catalyst 3.9? (I dont want to unnecessarily uninstall and install new drivers without certainty that other games will work just fine as before) Right now i am running Catalyst 3.8

Any advice or information on this (common crashes in Call of Duty?) problem?

Sounds like some video card overheating to me.. If thats the case, the 3.8's cant be helping the situation. Hows your case circulation? Dust? If not, go back to the 3.7's.

Its definately not overheating because i can play ALL GAMES but Call of Duty and the game crashes right at the loading of the level screen.

Also i can overclock from 275/275 to 300/300 and run all benchmarks

and I have 1 intake fan on the side, 1 exhast fan on the back 1 intake fan on the front and 1 exhaust fan on the top of the case

It's the game. I run mine on a water cooled setup, of which I control the temp of the system, and it is Not heat related, the game needs a patch, and none is forth coming. (I called them today). Kinda pushed out of shape here, as I am sick and tired of games getting thrown into the main stream without proper beta testing. < all done with my rant.
(ps) I am running a 2.8c at 3500, with chilled water at 54f, and can run D2ol overnight without a hitch, Also running a Radeon 9800pro with 3.6 drivers, as anything higher isn't worth squat.

Make sure "Fastwrites" is turned OFF in Ati drivers and Motherboard bios. This is a known problem with CoD and Ati cards.

1. SmartGART tab: turn off Fast Writes.
2. CoD: make sure you're not using "Extreme" texture detail.
3. Um, what are you doing with TruForm on? ;P
4. Try the 3.9's.

Turn off fastwrites. Also, try the Omega drivers if ATI drivers don't work for you. I've been using Omega drivers and haven't had any issues.

CAT 3.7'S have the 16 bit opengl bug when you die it produces 256 colors. Haven't tried the 3.9's yet. Stuck on the bridge mission.

I saw someone wrote about disabling dynamic lighting in the game to fix his problems. Try that?

weird. i was able to complete the game with 3.8s with no lockups. however i did throttle my agp speed from 8x to 4x (was causing problems in gta3), so maybe that's it?

From HardOcp

ATI Smoking Hot Fix:
ATI has issued a hotfix for the Cat3.9 driver. This hotfix is an early version of CATALYST 3.10 and is available for users suffering the following problems:

The OpenGL driver does not load on All-In-Wonder products
System hangs while playing Call of Duty
Texture/triangle flashing while playing IL2 Sturmovik

Please note that the hotfix driver is not Microsoft WHQL certified, and ATI recommends that users who are not seeing these issues wait for the fully supported, fully WHQL certified CATALYST 3.10 due in early December.

So if CoD and IL2 are working great and your AIW will OGL like NP, don't use this HF DA.

Killrose & Pete:

Thanks for the help! Call of Duty was locking up everytime just minutes into the game. My card is running 57 C (134 C) which is normal for me running other games. I turned off "Fast Writes" and have not had a single lock-up since.

I love these forums and you folks are awesome!

Thanks for all the help.

Was getting the same problem with my 8500 with 3.8 so went to 3.9 but still the same then back to 3.7 and better now. It still kicks me out after a while though and I think it may be heat as I switched to an Antec Sonata case with a lot less fans.

On my own computer with an 9800pro its fine but lots more airflow and I had some issues with 3.8 and 3.9 on it as well so took it back to 3.7 as well.

Nice game, replaying it now at a higher difficulty.
