Call of Duty 4

Hiya. I have
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @2.20GHz
4GB Ram
nVidia 9500gt 1GB
Widows 7 32bit

When i try to run Call of Duty 4 i have a FPS of around 50-60. People have told me that i should be getting over the 100 mark, why am i not?

I have no other programs running whilst playing, i also have my settings on the lowest they can go and still get 50-60fps.

50-60 FPS seems reasonable to me for just a 9500GT. What happens if you run it at a higher resolution?

when i say 50-60..i mean BARELY, i get 50-60 when no players are around me

When i go into a area with lots of gun fights, i will drop to around 45fps.

On optimal settings (it chooses for me) i get 35-40

Sounds like a 9500GT expected level of performance to me (actually, better than I expected). Get one of those 9800GT EE cards that I've seen floating around for $70 and you'll be set... great performance for CoD4, no crazy power requirements (not even a PCIe for Graphics PWR connector). It should just drop in place of the 9500GT without a concern. The "EE" = "Energy Efficient" but some manufacturers call it something else like "PE" (Power Efficient). I nabbed one for PhysX along with my GTX 480 even though I have a PCP&C TurboCool 1KW. 😉

My brother did this exact thing... replaced his 9500GT with a 9800GT EE for CoD4.

what FPS does your brother get now with the 9800GT EE and what processor has he got?

I'm his brother. I played a bit of MW2 @ max settings 1920x1200. Didn't check the actual framerate, but it was liquid smooth. CPU is an Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 (not overclocked). 3GB DDR2.

One of the best upgrades you can buy. I keep seeing $80 after-rebate deals too. There was a YMMV clearance @ some Best Buy stores a while back The closest store never lowered the price from $150, but I got mine for $70 straight-up (no rebate) from the next-closest store.

Awesome.

I got the PNY brand, but I know BFG has a model like this too. There are 512MB and 1,024MB versions. Mine is 1GB, but I really don't think this makes any difference with today's games.
