Wow... First of all, I am simply amazed at the graphics. They are not quite as good as Crysis, but they are more full and it runs smoother! The single player experience is breathtaking... This IS the game to own if you really want to feel like like you are in the middle of a war.

The only downsides are

1) The AI is scripted... If you play the game, you could memorize all spawm points, where a guy is when you tun the corner.

2) Some of the textures (light switches for example) are really crappy.... But luckily, the action is too heavy to go site seeing...

Anyway... If you were on the fence about this, be assured, this is a top notch title if you love war.

I passed on it. Demo didn't do it for me, especially the 'clown in the car' trick the entire enemy army knew how to pull.

Ya its pretty incredible how good it looks and runs compared to CryPig. Great game for sure but the more I think about it, the more I get that empty feeling they left a lot on the cutting room floor. Just feels like they could've done so much more.

Anyways, main two gripes are like most others

1) Single Player campaign is way too short. Honestly I don't even play most campaigns in FPS games, but this one was worth playing, just wish it was longer.

2) Multi Player isn't nearly as engrossing/addicting as it could/should be. Lots more factor into this, but there's really too much to list. Its still great fun, but not nearly as captivating as some other MP FPS I've played.

I am also enjoying this game, I started the single player campaign last night and I am impressed... runs great too.
I went to a small LAN party over the weekend and this was the game of choice I had lots of fun.

CoD4's campaign was majorly not 'incredable'. More like mediocre. It felt like... the last few levels of Crysis the whole time.

Um COD4 whoops crysis in the butt. And i only make that statement now because i just finished the single player game. I've beaten both crysis and cod4, both are great. At first, i was 100% crysis, and in fact played and beat that a few times and then messed around before i even tried cod4.

but man, OH MAN. COD4 is the $ of pc games right now. I just beat it on 1280x1024 8xaa 16xaf Quality. Its framerates are smooth, and action intense, and much of the scripting is done SOOOO much better than crysis.

the best game ever would be to let COD4's directors and story builders use crysis's graphics and engine to produce one scenematic ass kicking pc-gaming experience.

COD4 > crysis, or any other pc game in todays market. And i used to hype crysis nonstop, jeez i should have listened to my buddies telling me cod4 kicks ass.

they were right!

CoD4 single player was fun. Not amazing, not terribly innovative, even extremely frustrating at times - but still fun. The storyline wasn't so great, needs some patching up and backstory, but other than that, it was a very enjoyable (albeit short) campaign.

Woa, woa, woa. Don't be comparing the graphics in that manner if you want to be taken seriously. While CoD4 does run smoother, the graphics are barely an evolutionary leap from CoD2 and in no way compare to Crysis.

Man, COD:UO was a fucking amazing game. And while I'd love to completely agree with you, the fact is that COD4 is actually a decent sequel in the series. Not as good as UO, but a nice entry none the less.

United Offensive though... there is a game everyone should play.

Yeah. And way too scripted. The entire Call of Duty series has been a big disappointment. I have no idea what the critics see in it.

Scripted and linear isn't a bad thing, but Infinity Ward just sucks at hiding it.

I am thoroughly enjoying COD4. I personally think its the best game of its genre in a very long time.

i loved this game. it looks incredible at 1920x1080, 4xAA 16xAF on my 37" Westy, especially the "all ghillied up" mission. the action is exciting, the pacing is awesome, the set pieces are unique and memorable and the mission variety is great. the game doesn't exactly reinvent the genre, but it is an extremely polished & fun experience with great production values.

the only drawback is that the singleplayer is VERY short - maybe 3-4 hours? - but every single second is intense. along with portals, it is definitely one of the most entertaining games i've played in a while.

i have not played crysis yet, so i can't compare. i tried to run it on my computer and had to turn the settings so low to get playable framerates that the game started to look worse than far cry. judging from screenshots, the crysis engine may be gorgeous, but it doesn't scale worth sh*t.

I don't know what game you were playing. The CoD4 campaign made me feel like I was in a movie - it was incredibly cinematic and a lot of polish went into it. Cryis is fun (only just exited the cave, though), but it's really not as gripping.

I've been enjoying COD4 SP a bit, but I hate how the enemies just continually spawn and the game is so linear. Linearity is something I can deal with, but the endless droves of bad guys gets old really fast.

It's gotten to the point where I see no reason to shoot anyone that's not directly blocking my path to the next yellow target on my compass... and that's not what a superior FPS should be like. At least in Far Cry and Crysis (and hopefully Far Cry 2) you have some choices to make concerning how to tackle an objective, in COD4 all you can do is get to the next waypoint, because the enemies won't stop spawning, and there's nowhere else to explore.

Decent graphics and a semi-cinematic story aren't what makes a game great.

I agree here with the enemies spawning until you get to the next waypoint which is something that annoyed me too but the game was very enjoyable and it scaled really well to my system.

How long have you been playing FPS's. I have gone through the first 4 levels of this game and have seen nothing new and breathtaking.. since then I have put it down and have not had a reason to return.

COD4 is indeed a very good game, perhaps the best FPS without anything new or innovative. It opens up the maps a little more then the usual FPS, graphics are up to snuff, and they did a damn good job with the scripted events and storyline.

But it was still the same old "why shrubs defeat me?" (the jumping over stuff is very limited), strict path you are forced to follow, zerg spawning enemies, scripted in at X point enemies, stuff just off the top of my head.

Multiplayer is Meh. A few small maps where the person with the fastest twitch wins, and a gun unlock system copied from Battle Field with a touch of RPG skills tossed in. It's fun for a while though.
I do have to admit that crysis MP sucks, BF2 is much more enjoyable.. still.

I enjoyed crysis much more, with i found more fun to play but with a weaker storyline (the ending could of been a lot better for example). Being able to play on high settings helped as well.

Both have their shining moments, i'd have to recommend getting both (unless you don't have a good gaming rig, then stay away from crysis for now).
