A friend and i want to play online either on the same team or against each other. Which one would you pick.

Would playing on the same network greatly lag everything?

bf2 = crashy little buggy game that is totally destroyed by ranking system. people have totally forgetten to have fun in the game and all they worry about is having a good kill ratio.
cod2 = nothing but a graphical upgrade in mutliplayer section
ut2004 = good looking , but i didn't like that much.. i think UT2000 is still better. Ut2004 did was add onslaut mode which was crap!
bf1942 = awesome game and my fav online game
DOD source = much better than CS:S & COD 2 ... been playing it for few months now and i love it
RTCW : ET = Awesome game :)

I don't think COD2 is necessarily chosen for its multiplayer. Games like BF2 or DoD:S (only $20!) would be your best bet. My bro and I played a crapton of DoD:S on the same servers last semester. And even with our slow Charter cable, we had no lag at all playing on the same server. DoD:S is very good and you don't have to put up with the stat padding clanners like in BF2. Some DoD:S servers say 'you are temporarily blinded for ghosting an IP with another player' but that doesn't affect your playing since it only appears when you are waiting to respawn.

I think going to go with DOF:S now and BF 2 nextweek . So i would need to buy two copies , right? One for me and one for my friend. (We are going to be playing on the same lan)

WIth this game, we can play online on hte same team, correct? We would just be along side other online players?

Thanks for all the help so far

In order to play DOD:D do i need to have any other game on my system?!

Yeah you'll need two copies of each to play at the same time on the same server.

And you can choose to play on the same team and try to coordinate things. As I said, I played a lot of DoD:S with my bro so we would stick together and cover each other, etc... Pretty fun!

If you're only interested in DoD:S, then yes that is all you need. It is $20 through Steam, though I also seen it retail packaged with CS:S for $40. I think it is one of the best $20 you'll spend on a game.

Also, we had to update our firmware on a Netgear MR814v2 router since it would not less us join the same Source server. Like if my bro was playing and I tried to join, it wouldn't connect to the server. A firmware upgrade fixed this, though you still might get a message about 'ghosting an IP with another player' but this doesn't seem to affect anything. A Linksys router had no troubles with both of us connecting to the same server, but that firmware was already new anyway.
