Call of Duty 2 is very, very slow.

I have a "slow" system compared to most people here.

Athlon XP 2500
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
612 MB PC3200 memory
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Soundblaster Live

Right now my guy in Call of Duty 2 moves much, much slower than a snail would (really)
The other guys friends or enemies move much much faster. I am not a gaming technology expert so maybe that is very normal.

My question is whether my system is really too slow and old to handle this game or whether there could be something else wrong that I could fix. I am not looking for super performance or special effects. I would like to just be able to play the game.

Any ideas?

Do you mean on-line play? If so what type ISP, modem, etc do you use? Check the box for minimum system requirements.

What resolutions are you running?
I'm assuming you have 512 Mb Ram not the stated 612? In either case, it's not near enough.

I am NOT talking about playing online just single player on my system.

Sorry the memory was 512MB.

Would that be the bottleneck?

By the way I have already tried turning off anything I could think of including resolution to 640 x 480.

I am using the most recent Omega driver for my video card and updated drivers for the soundblaster. XP Pro SP2 with all updates.

do you mean that your character itself moves slow or that the game runs slow?
if your character moves slow chech the control settings to make sure that walk isnt toggled on.

The video driver I am using is Omega version 2.6.75a dated 10/25/05 based on ATIatalyst 5.10
I have already tried DX7 with very limited improvement if any. DX8 does not seem to be a choice
I have run with AA turned off and the other available choices in the Option menu of the game that would seem to improve frame rate. The result has been that the game is still plainly unplayable.
I think it is both the caracter and as a consequence the game which is moving very slow.
Here is one interesting event that could hopefully give a clue to some of you: at the start of the game in the "training" phase the character is ordered to go get himself a pistol and a gun. One time at that point the commandant actually ordered my camarads to shoot me (and I actually died) because I was not moving fast enough. I actually was moving as fast as I could.
gac009 don't think my problem has to do with that, however I have not found a toggle contol for walking. Can you expand and clarify your thought. Is there a part of the interface with other settings besides the main user interface that I do not know about?
Thanks to all for your input.

I dunno what you have installed that might be slowing it down but my friend has a similarly powered system. I think he has a Radeon 9600 and it's running fine at 1024x768.

how many processes are you running?

Press Ctrl-Alt-Del and click on the Peformance tab look under the box entitled Totals.

I have a pretty similar system Athlon XP at about 1900mhz, 9700 nonpro, and 1GB ram. The game runs acceptably at 800x600 with 2xAA which were the recommended settings and I think its in DX7 mode. I think I'm still using the 5.9 drivers and havent noticed any problems. sorry thats not much help

.

Sounds to me like the game is fscked up. I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Ya that doesn't sound like a hardware problem at all. If your player is actually moving slow than something in the game is messed up.

This is driving me nuts and I am just about ready to give up.

I uninstalled the Omega driver and installed the official most recent Catalyst driver.
I canceled the CPU overclocking I was doing and went down to standard specs.
I uninstalled the game and installed the demo version to see if anything was different. Nothing.
I reinstalled the regular game and run it in safe mode. Nothing.
The character keeps moving like a snail. If the enemy throws a granade I don't stand a chance. If I have to use an explosive I am dead.
Everyone around me moves at normal speed except me.
Anyone else have anything to suggest?
I did download Fraps and tomorrow I will try to find out what kind of frame rate I am dealing with.

It looks like you've covered all your bases. Have you contacted Activision?

I finally got it !

It was the KVM switch I was using !

I started thinking about it last night and finally tried today connecting keyboard, monitor and mouse directly to the PC and bingo.

The strange part is that I played other games including the original Call of Duty with that setup.

Who knows !

My father runs COD2 on his system, it's a 2400 AXP, 1.5GB PC3200, 6600GT. It runs like crap, and it rather surprises me. It ran near flawless on my system. (A64 3500, 7800GT, 2GB)

Haha, I don't know why it did, but that phrase struck me as being funny. Lol, the game punishes you because your system isn't fast enough.

Of course it would run like crap on 6600GT. COD2 highly gpu dependent

Now 6600GT is even faster than 9700Pro. 7800GT is faster than 6800U which is 2x faster than 6600GT. Nothing suprising here.

Works perfectly on my computer with everything enabled... the only things that are on low are AA and AF... and i only have 1 6600GT (I have an A64 3500+ w/ 1Gb of ram)
