You'll never overclock close to X1800XT speeds with an X1800XL card. The core will most likely reach 575-590, and memory is only rated at 1.6ns (tops at 1400, probably way earlier) vs. 1.26 for X1800XT.

With current prices, 7800GT @ $300 > X1800XL.

comments like yours is why i dont trust personal opinions. at the settings you listed a 7800gtx will only average 24 fps but you saw no slowdowns, right. http://firingsquad.com/hardware/call_of_duty_2_performance_ati_nvidia/page7.asp

If you want, I'll run fraps next time I'm at his house. I'm not sure, but I think that his drivers are optimized for performance or not image quality or somthing. I came up with this because I have the same system as him, but he was able to run Doom 3 with 8aa at 16x12 fine at 30 -60fps where I got 20 - 50 fps. His drivers are 77.50. Mine were 77.72.

DX9 runs ridiculously slow so I personally run the game under the DirectX7 path. 640x480 is a slideshow under DX9 but under DX7 I can run the game at 1856x1392 with 6xAA and seldom drop below 60 FPS, plus it still looks better than the original.

Leadtek 6600GT pci-e

I run it @1024x768 on DX7 with all eye candy.

The patch is suppose to "fix" the DX7-DX9 problem...so I heard.

My fps ranges anywere from 30-110 fps.
When in heavy skirmishes and/or heavy smoke around 30-50.
When just walking around 80-90.
In moderate skirmishes 70
I would say 75 is my avg.

single geforce cards have a maximum of 4xAA in opengl and can only run 8xS in direct3d,..so if its a single card,.and 8xAA was set it the doom3 settings,...it was actually 0xAA,...if it was set in the nvidia driver control panel as 8xS forced,..then the driver reverts to 4xAA for opengl applications,..so if he set it in doom3 setting and you set it in driver panel,..he was running 0xAA, you were running 4xAA

full 8xAAand 16xAA can only be done with SLi on geforce cards

Here are my pc's specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2500+
1 gb pc 3200 ram
ATI Radeon 9800 nonpro
etc...

On this mega pc I get incredible framerates in DX9 mode, 800x600 res, all textures features set to normal, dynamic lights to low, shadows off, smoke off, sli on..etc. By incredible I mean 5 to 10 fps on average..isnt that great? ;)

I guess I'll stick to DX7 mode...oh well.

Rig in sig, everything maxed.

Usually 20-35fps...goes down to 10-15 with smoke :p

BUT STILL PLAYABLE, its not laggy, its...slow is all, I think its my 2GB ram that makes it so playable.

I wish I could get 20 -35fps.. thats perfectly playable for single player. Not satisfactory for multiplayer but for SP its just fine. Now try play the game at 5 to 10 fps.. now THATS low!

yeah me to.......with DX7:disgust: but DX7 doesn't look as bad as i thought it would, plus DX9 kills my 6800nu (20-30fps)@1280x1024 with no aa/af and SLI mode on.

i'm pretty happy with my settings, cause now the game runs pretty smooth on my x800 xl. I dropped detail settings from extra down to high. Not a huge visual difference, but gave me the performance boost i needed.

1280X1024
AF on
AA off
dx9
shadows off
lights normal
corpses medium
details high

Do you have any idea why he was able to run COD2 so well?
