I just found out that they made a Cthulhu game. This is very exciting. Came out in 2006. Metacritic is giving it a 76. Anyone ever play it? Any good? what does it compare to?

Played it on console, mildly interesting. It is very linear, combat sucks, can be frustrating at times and verrrryyy bland environment with every shade of brown and gray you could hope for. Don't know what differences there are between Xbox and PC, but I doubt it's much.

If I was your friend I'd point to towards a J RPG before I'd recommend this, but I'm not so feel free to give it a try.

-Edit- Oh, and I think it qualifies as "action adventure", that should be all you need to know

i played it for a little bit, never finished it though. it was ok, seemed to be a lot of needless walking and it was extremely frustrating at certain parts.

Awesome game; creepy as fuck. I never finished it though, since it kept crashing at a certain point. Like pontifex said, it can be very frustrating at certain parts - you might have to replay a section several times before you beat it.

I REALLY liked that game. It was more of an adventure game than an FPS, but its creepy as well and the story plays out really well. Definitely worth the play.

I didn't care for it. It should have been really awesome, but a lo tof design changes occurred at the last second and the game was just sort of mediocre.

I thought it was a great game, very atmospheric. Graphics are passable (very good for the time), sound/dialogue is great, and the story pulls you in. Also, the "psychosis" mechanic is very cool and way better implimented than the similar "malaria" mechanic in FC2. As stated before, it's main drawback is its pretty linear -- this is tempered I think by the very good sneak mechanics.

If you're into survival horror or Lovecraft fan, you should get it. If you're both, it's a must-have.

I played it on pc, and enjoyed it. The colors were very atmospheric, and not strictly dull. Maybe it was more bland on console? It did flounder a little bit, as in the beginning the rp aspects seemed more promising, but it was still fun.

At the end though, there is a fatal bug that prevents you from finishing the game. There is no real patch for it, although iirc there are some people who posted a solution of some kind. Best thing would be if they just shared a game save right past the glitched part.

I liked the game quite a bit. It captures the atmosphere of Lovecraft's "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" nearly dead-on. The only drawback is the numerous bugs found in the game. I had to get a save online at one point because I hit a bug where I simply couldn't progress which was pretty annoying. I think alot of people playing the game expect it to be an FPS but it really is an adventure/horror game with some gunplay thrown in for action.

I suppose that it might make a difference if you're the sort of person who likes three-hour games of Arkham Horror.

Hearing my broken leg bones grinding around when I hobbled away from fish men after falling was cool.

Ah, I also forgot to mention the game kept crashing in the middle of the part where you are in the back of the truck. So don't feel along in your game crashes PC gamers :p .

Fun game, creepy, atmospheric, well-written. I never finished it, and I have not been able to install it on Vista (though I think that may be because of damage to the CD).
