Call me picky, but..... (Lan Room Question)

I finally have the $$ to buy into a house, and lo, it has a basement. The arrangement with the lil lady is that I can do whatever I want with the basement. I already have an electrician giving me a new circuit just for the pooter in the basement. I've worked out cabling, and wire diagrams. I have 3 17" CRT monitors now, and plan on investing in another CRT in the near future. The one thing that is bugging me is the lighting. Here my question:

What kind of lighting would be ideal for this situation? There is no external light (ie a window), and I can install either (standard?) lighting (ie lamps, or overhead lights), OR I can install fluorescent lighting. Which sets the right mood? Which shows the most colors on the screens? Which hides the pizza stains on the carpet the most? Just wanted to hear what people thought.

PS - Probably in the wrong forum, if so, apologies in advance.

You might get more answers in general hardware, but......

My understanding is that ethernet cables and fluorescent lighting do not play together well. When I finished my basement, it was regular lighting (hi-hats in a drop-down ceiling) with dimmer switches. I just dial in the amount of light I want. Less if the TV is on, more if I'm trying to find the beer 'fridge, and medium if the computer is working at high speed. I've worked on (old) computers in a basement with fluorescent lighting and didn't like it very much.

Just my 2¢.

I imagine the type of lighting you prefer is a personal thing but I have never seen flourescent lighting have any effect on ethernet cables. I'm in a 22'x22' room with six flourescent light fixtures and no interference . Just my $.02.

Ah. It's always good to hear from someone with practical experience. I checked here as well as other places about the fluorescent lighting issue. (If I recall properly, it's about running two cables - ethernet & power for a fluorescent light - parallel that causes problems.)

It's beginning to sound like it's your choice.....

lighting is definitely personal preference
i like to stay away from windows because they result in nasty glare on your monitors....causing you to close the blinds anyways

i like halogen floor lamps. fluorescent tube lights are also good...but it depends on the type of bulb. i find that the daylight bulbs are too bright for me. they emit white light. yuck
