It looks dumb as shit to me. Lord of the Rings (which sucks some of the biggest dick to ever be sucked) with nudity and extreme gore. Pass.

Considering about half the episodes this season saw 7+ million people watching live on TV with easily just as many downloading illegally every week. It is a very popular show, probably one of the most popular shows in over a decade. Even the most popular prime time network shows (fox, CBS, etc) get 10M viewers on a good night. For a premium subscription only channel(HBO) to get that many viewers says something about the quality of the content.

If number of viewers is your only determining factor to say something is good then American Idol is the best show on TV by a mile, and Miley Cyrus is the best artist of our time.

A bunch of idiot red necked American's all following like sheep to something doesn't make it good. Game of Thrones is just another trendy hipster movement just of a different kind.

All that being said, Game of Thrones is pretty bad ass and at least some of the hipster movements in this modern era are much more palatable. Sure, Vampire stories like Twilight and to a much lesser extent True Blood are pretty gay but at least its still Vampires and cool fantasy shit that I can relate to versus the numerous singing shows that make me want to become a murderer.

I haven't seen it yet either but of course I've heard a lot about it.

Is any of it on Netflix (I'm at work right now)? I need a new show to watch anyway. I just got done re-watching Band of Brothers and The Pacific again for the hundredth time; there's a couple more excellent HBO shows.

I forced myself to watch the first season and just couldn't get into it. I found it boring. I like to annoy GoT fans by calling it Game of Boring.

Add in the fact the bad guy always wins and you nailed GOT. And its pretty cool.

GoT makes you look at who the real bad guys are. There are a few people who are pretty outright bad, but GoT has many characters that are in a grey area (Jaime for example seems bad in season 1, but by season 4...much less so.)

I am with you.

Aside from boobs and some really fucking hot chicks (i.e. Natalie Dormer), there isn't much of anything there. It's all sensationalist porn frankly; naked people, sex (,.. except the incest parts,..), gore, vengeance, backstabbing, etc. etc.

 The show is less than 2% sex and nudity. Not even a minute of it per episode.

I played WoW and all but people dressed up in funny clothes is not my thing. Obviously in WoW I ignored all the lore and storytelling and just killed sh!t.

I still have never had the urge to watch a Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or Star Trek anything. I like other kinds of sci-fi though.

Yes it's soap opera which is why I never watch these stupid shows. Same reason why I stopped watching The Walking Dead. All these shows are all basically the same, they get extremely boring, you basically have to binge view them and you literally have to watch every episode or else you won't understand anything.

There's a reason why the only show I watch on TV is Seinfeld, you don't need to watch every episode to enjoy the one you're watching. Sure you'll get more of the inside jokes but every episode can stand on its own.

The thing about Game of Thrones for isn't necessarily the story (been there, done that)... But for a TV show, it has pretty incredible production values. Feels like watching a movie. The production values are better than most movies (with heavy CGI) actually.

It's actually quite EPIC for a TV show in that regard.

Yes it has great production but being like a movie is no badge of honor - given that very little if any of contemporary Hollywood is worth watching

Independent and foreign movies on the other hand, with lesser production values, are far more interesting.

Try Generation Kill, if you haven't went there yet.

i like that for the most part it's not an easy show to watch - the story is huge. i also like that it's not for children.

there's lots of primal stimulation with sex and violence, but there's also intellectual stimulation. the more you pay attention and think, the more the show rewards you. the production value is absolutely first-class and i think the acting is terrific.

sometimes i do get the feeling that things are screwed up or missing from the books, however.

It's remarkable, I haven't heard a single complaint in this thread that I feel the need to refute. Not because they're right, but because they're just so nonexistent. It's like going up to someone in a blue shirt and saying "Hey your shirt is blue and blue sucks! You suck!". The most likely response is just a very weird look.

You can always discuss quality of shows, but my guess is that 99% of people who have watched the show will continue to do so.

I think you're confusing "discussion" with "contrarion venting". I can appreciate the opinion of someone who gave the show an honest try and just couldn't get into it, but most of what you see online is so ludicrously made-up and rationalized it defies belief. It's like saying Anna Kendrick is ugly because she's fat, it just factually isn't true no matter how you slice it and thus has no value as criticism.
