Oh and the idea that weed would be a tax savior for CA is stupid. If pot is legalize then everyone and their mother will be growing plants in their backyard. Pot is not hard to grow at all being that it is after all a weed.

The real money for the state isn't the tax's they would collect, it's the money they are NOT spending fighting the War on Drugs™, the money they are not spending to imprison thousands and thousands, of non-violent drug offenders. There are billions in benefits just waiting to be realized outside of just taxes, and licensing fees.

It would be great but I still dont think that it would pass. I mean really, how many of those people who smoke weed are gonna go out and vote. They might say they will, and they would be like "ehh i got lazy" like fucking morons. Its the housewives and the church leaders pushing their congregation to vote that are gonna go.

I bet you anything he is remembering $20/eighth oz. as $20/oz. I don't think even cheap Mexican weed in the 1970's was $20/ounce.

It most definately was in the early 70s. Quickly went up after that though mainly because the Columbian and Jamacan stuff was so much better nobody cared about the mediocre Mexican anymore. Of course there was Accopolco Gold, but that was never that cheap.

Hell, in the 60's, the stuff was even cheaper than that...GOOD "Lids" of pot went for $10...and they were rarely weighed...but measured by "fingers." A good lid was "4 fingers tall," and generally weighed at least an ounce.
The "better" grades of pot, such as Vietnamese or Thai were a bit more, but not usually more than $15/oz.
In the early-to-mid 70's, high quality Colombian pot was rarely more than $25-30 per ounce.
I don't think I even heard of "buying an eighth" until sometime in the 80's or maybe the 90's.

I'm not a pot smoker...and haven't even seen the stuff in a couple of decades, but I'm related to a couple of potheads, so I always hear about the current "varieties" and prices.

I'm still undecided how I'll vote on Prop 19, but will probably vote in favor of it. I've advocated for decades to legalize it, control it like alcohol, and tax the hell out of it...so this may be a good first step.
