im about to buy a used car from a private party. im most likely going to pay for it using a loan thru my bank. what i want to avoid is paying a tax on the car at the dmv. does anyone know if the dmv will require some kind of "proof of purchase" when i register it under my name? id like to ideally tell them i recieved the car as a gift(so i dont pay anything), but i dont know if they require some paperwork for that.
