Once you determine the actual marginal cost of any thing one can then see the incremental cost is minor compared to the refusal of such service to a fellow human.
We always forget many of us have roots that came from another place. Now that we have ours we don't want anyone else to follow along because we might lose something to them.

I thought Georgia was nuts to consider giving Driver Licenses to illegal immigrants but just read that California has already done it.
The Law goes into affect Jan 1.
Illegals just have to show their Mexican Consular card and will be handed a California License. California has turned the Priviledge of driving into a right and not just a right for American Tax paying Citizens that pay for the roads and services but now Americans have to pay for illegals that now have a lot more than the right to drive in the U.S. but this will surely be the perverbial opening of a can of worms.
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/Attention: Wait until 2004
Legal Presence and SSN are still required until 1/2/2004.
The new law that goes into effect in January 2004 changes requirements for a driver license or identification card. Until 2004, anyone who applies for a driver license or identification card must still provide proof of legal presence. In 2004, call 1-800-777-0133 or visit DMV's website to make an appointment.

LunarRay you are so off base its sick. Sorry to inform you but my parents came to this country in the 50's and BECAME legal citizens just like everyone else should be doing. Its not that we don't want them to follow, its simply a case of them following the rules and the laws like others followed. I also admire individuals that want to educate themselves and live the American Dream, etc. That's what this country is all about. You have no argument there. But its in the way they are doing it. They are here illegally and want an education, let them pay for it out of their own pockets. Period. What's your next proposal, that we pay for everyone's education in Taiwan, Italy, Germany, etc.??
I love how you describe the cost of a little kid being seen by a MD. No, one little kid is not going to matter. 3 million illegals in California ARE!!! Multiply that out when you consider the cost. Its not the one, two, five or 20, its hundreds of thousands if not millions.
Your argument seems to have no boundaries. Hmmm, I could argue that the American dream is to become rich, retire and not have to work anymore, so what if I do it ripping everyone off including you right? Does Worldcom ring a bell? Enron? It was only a few executives trying to get rich. Not such a big deal in your terms now is it.

My argument (?) stems from an acceptance of reality. The reality I speak of is quite apparent. Our Legislatures and Congress make laws that seem to assume some factors that are not real. The Illegal Aliens are here and they will continue to be here so lets start with that reality.
Davis is jumped because our legislature created a proposal to give licenses to Illegal Aliens not because they are in Mexico or Korea but here and driving on our streets where our kids and grandkids play. They are uninsured and dangerous. Well license them and the process may cause some to insure and learn to drive properly. Our kids play with their kids and disease that can be transferred will be so treat them and if it is just a humane issue would you do less for a wild deer?
There will come a point in time, given our government seems not disposed to enact the measures to close the borders because of the impossibility of that and the cost would be staggering, that there'll be no incentive to come here. No work, no place to live and the like. The cost of the illegal versus keeping them out is a trade off, I suppose.
Perhaps, the Mexican feels the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (sp) back in 1848 or so was wrong... and they want California back and they've found a way to do it.. I don't know. What I do know is there are many reasons to help the Illegals become citizens and assimilate into society. For one they are people. For another they are here and we spend gazillions fighting a war for the same purpose across the world. Should this be seen that much differently? I think not!
But, I'd support any reasonable and humane way of effecting a change to the status quo that has been such for as long as I can remember. Red mentioned the Vietnamese who came here and Canada back in the 70's. I just say start any analysis based on the fact that they are here.

Yea, in in reality the illegals should not be here. They should be deported, but the problem is you have people like yourself who do not want to enforce the laws of this country. If they did, reality would be different now wouldn't it. The reality is that the US government should be repelling our borders, that is one of its prime duties. They should be using the US military to defend our borders against people who shouldn't be here in the first place.
Get real. The only reason we don't deport Illegals is because they are making a fortune for Republican owned businesses.

And my ancestors came to this country legally. And when they did come to this country, they didn't try to steal a handout from everyone else, they made it on their own. People like you make me sick, with your sweet talk while you pick everyone's pockets. If I met you in real life...
