Average on what planet? 7 to 10 GPM is a torrential downpour a la Amazon basin. Most are in the 2.5 GPM range. Of course, if you live in a place where water usage is not a consideration, go for it.

even if you round down to 5 GMP for a non low use shower head thats still a 10 min shower and you have used all your water for the day

pretty sure the rain shower head we have is north of 10 GPM, its like a garden hose, its amazing

If you live in a place that doesn't have that kind of water, that's kind of silly, no?

i live in NY, we have too much water

And I grew up in Minnesota where water isn't a problem except when there's too much of it. My point is that if, you never leave your basement, you tend to think water comes out of faucets. Where do the people who live in places with drought and water shortages, think the water is going to come from? It's just plain silly to live without giving it any thought.

wasn't a problem until we got to "historic drought" status. Now, WA/OR is looking pretty good!

So move. The idea that you're not going to change your lifestyle til you're forced to is pretty damn foolish and short sighted.

50 gallons isn't much water per person. Remember, flushing the toilet a few times a day per person, a shower per day, washing dishes, washing clothes. Even little things like leaving the water running while brushing teeth adds up to a few gallons. And you'd better hope that you don't have a slowly leaking toilet. 50 gallons per day is well below average in this country.

Anyhow, until there's a reputable site...

This is a clear area where "averages" are misleading at best. It doesn't matter if places with too much water, go through it like crazy. It definitely does matter if places with shortages do the same.

Water rationing hits California: limit of 50 gallons per person per day or face fines of $500

Millions of Californians are about to be hit with strict water rationing -- daily "allocation" numbers that represent the maximum amount of water you're allowed to use for any purpose. Households that exceed the allocation limit will face stiff fines of hundreds of dollars per violation.

When the citizens of California truly wake up and realize where this is all headed, real estate prices will utterly collapse, leading to a collapse of local property tax revenues and the economic devastation of towns and cities. Many of those once-thriving towns will inevitably return to the desert from which they sprang.

Where do you find this stupidity Dave?

According to EPA:
The average American family of four uses 400 gallons of water per day. On average, approximately 70 percent of that water is used indoors, with the bathroom being the largest consumer (a toilet alone can use 27 percent!).

But according to water.org:

The average American uses 176 gallons of water per day compared to 5 gallons of water the average African family uses each day.
176 gallons per day, per person? Wow.

So individuals being reduced to an amount that's still 10 times the average for an entire family of *actual* poor people of this world is a major First World Problem.

Pretty much all toilets in California use 1.6 gallons per flush. A shower can be pretty easily done on 15 gallons, a load in the washer is around twelve gallons I think. So 35 gallons is probably the lower limit on usage. Oddly enough, there are no restrictions on water use in my area. Though I could easily water my entire yard on the runoff from my neighbors front lawn.

If Dave's dome gloom predictions come true, I'll be buying real estate for penny's on the dollar and become fabulously wealthy when it starts raining again.

actually you have no business being in the shower for more than a few minutes.....also where we live the toilets and shower fixtures have to be low flow..... 7 to 10 gpm seems really like a lot of water...

i can't possibly soap up, shampoo 2x, and rinse off in 'a few minutes'... so how about 'no'.

I shut the water off while i'm lathering all over and some people think it isn't necessary to shampoo every day.

the liberal idiots were told years ago they need at least three more Shasta sized hydro dams just to break even on their reckless immigration policies.

Last time I checked California didn't have an immigration policy, it's a state not a country.
And the last president to legalize millions of illegals was....Ronald Reagan, your hero.

Why would someone need more than 50 gallons of water a day. I don't use that much water in a month with 4 people in my household?

Republicans were rich enough to flee, Democrats are the ones holding the bag. See Detroit.

I thought Californians were fleeing for Texas, with even worse drought problems?
You notice the billionaires like George Lucas and Larry Ellison are staying put.
