in the past couple of months, i have bought many "fake" packs of Marlboro Mediums. these are "fake" because they are not the real Marlboro, the california state tax stamp on the bottom of the pack comes off really easy. i am in los angeles and about 75% of the gas stations i have been to carry the fake cigs because it is cheaper for them. for me, these fakes takes like crap, that's another way i know they are fake.

does this happen anywhere else, except los angeles?

those stamps mark the wholesale distributer that sold that cigarette.
wholesale disto pays government certain amount for each stamp used.
and this is where taxes come into play.

i donno how much tax ca is charging... but i'm assuming that it's a lot.

one can probably get cigarettes from native american reservations... to avoid paying taxes...
and put them stickers on themselves.

so while the stickers may be fake...
the cigarettes are still real. it's not like you're buying a camel in a marboro's case.

also... i had no idea about marboro's not being allowed in canada.
what's the reason for that?

the owner of player's/du maurier/etc started up "canadian marlboro".

no one sells it, barely. no one buys it. I think it was just a ploy to get the copyright in canada, to keep phillip morris out or something..

we can get RJR stuff like camel.

lets see.. about $10/pack ($6us) in my province. cheaper if youre native, but you cannot buy smokes off reservations without ID (that says youre indian.. then you get less tax).

Since he said they taste weird, I bet they're Marlboros from another country. I got some for cheap from Yessmoke.com (Switzerland) and they didn't taste like regular Marlboros. They're probably doing what you said with cheaper cigarettes from a different country.

I know that mexican marlboros taste a lot more different than american marlboros, mexican cigs taste like turd. but, what is bothering me is that before the "fake" cigs didn't have the stamp or miles and you could spot the fakes, but not anymore.
