My friends go to ski resorts like northstar etc.. while my family has for the most part gone to squaw valley.. I realize WHY they went to the other places, a season pass at squaw valley is $1K while places like northstar are like $300.. Is there a reason why squaw valley is so expensive? Is there a ski resort comparison or something?

Might have to do with the man power. I know the closest one to me, Sierra Summit has man-made snow, which probably means larger staff.

Honestly, there may be a lot in the name. I'm not sure how large those resorts are since I usually goto Mammoth so size may be a factor as well.

The Olympics was the only thing I could think of, is squaw really that much bigger than northstar?

Squaw Valley is 2850 vertical feet and 4000 acres as compared to 2280 ft and 2420 acres at northstar.

Heavenly is offering $319 season pass until June 19. Go to their website: LINK TO PASS. FAQ PDF For Season Pass

I love Squaw Valley, but their pass price is ridiculous...especially when you consider that Heavenly is as good or better than Squaw...and bigger!

If you want flexibility, the DoubleWhammy pass for $~360(?) is a good deal as you get Northstar and Sierra Ski Ranch. For days that you don't want to go INTO Tahoe (i.e. Northstar) you can ski at Sierra, which is a great place to ski. And then for other days that you want to see the Lake, you have Northstar. It's a very compelling offer.

Either Heavenly or the DoubleWhammy are the way to go. I personally love Heavenly, so my dollars are going for the $319 pass....it was a tough choice.

BTW, Heavenly's season ends this weekend and tix are $30 this Sat/SUn. They're holding music events, etc. It should be a great...

Squaw is bigger. Plus it has some great suff that you can hike to (Granite Chief). They got the Palisades if you got the balls to drop in. Plus, it's squaw!
