My dad and his coworkers tried something like that a while back. Keep in mind that my dad and his coworkers are all Ph.Ds in physics and/or mathematics :p

They analyzed numbers from as far back as they could find data, then tried to find a correlation between particular numbers that appeared to occur more frequently with potential physical effects. For example, 33 shows up frequently, and the way they figured it the extra paint from 33 (a lot of ink compared to 1 or something) caused it to float less, making it more likely to drop down into the chute at the bottom of the container.

They bought something like $500 worth of combinations they felt had the highest probability of occurring.

They won $3.

lol you'd think that they would just play 500 fake tickets to see how much they would win first and once they had gotten it done try some real money

I think someone suggested that, but they were worried that the "test run" would spike a jackpot winner, and then everybody was going to be pissed off that they hadn't actually bought the tickets :p

The other thing is that it was something like a $50 investment for each person. It didn't mean all that much to my dad or any of his colleagues.

QFT

The people my dad works will try to use math and physics on anything from bowling (they tried to figure out proper launch angles/velocities) to the NBA finals :p

Mega Millions ...huh we have Mega Millions in NY also are they the same?

Yep they are, just checked
California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. All together.

Do you think adding another state will make it bigger or easier to win?

Heh the lottery in my state doesn't use balls anymore. The number are generated by a computer in a secure room. According to their site anyway...

I rather see the balls than a computer do it...
