Remember back in 1999-2000, best buys was offering free $100, $200, or $400 gift cards in return for signing up for 1 yr., 2 yrs, or 3 yrs. of aol/compuserve for $21.95 a month?

IIRC, there was some loophole in CA where people didn't have to pay for the $21.95 a month for the internet subscription. People were basically walking out the door with $400 worth of stuff without paying a dime. What was this loophole?

IIRC, it was signing up for MSN. The contract said you couldn't terminate the contract early, but that was illegal in CA. So people could sign up and cancel immediately after getting the $400.

Wow, that's somewhat unethical to take advantage of them like that...
