California law on decals on rear window

My Googling sucks and all I'm turning up is stuff about window tint. I see a lot of cars with rear window decals for their business. I decided to order this for mine, and my mom's telling me you can only have something that's about 2x2 inches in the bottom corner. I see cars all the times with pretty much the whole thing taken up. That doesn't make it legal though, was wondering the official word here, and would it be a fix-it ticket if I put it on? I already paid the Printer and it's already being shipped so I can't cancel it. Trying to figure out what I can do here to salvage it :)

*EDIT* DOH typo :)

There is a general rule that stickers cant block the drivers vision, but that can be very subjective.

If a cop looks in the window and his opinion is its blocking too much visibility, you're busted.
You might be able to go argue it in court, but thats too much hassle, and you dont want to have to do it constantly.
Better to check with the DMV and see if theres a max legal size.

I read it and it looks like 7 inches is the max size, the one I ordered is 24x10, I see cars all the time with signs as big so I guess even with a law against it, it doesn't seem to be enforced? With my luck I'll be one of the ones who actually gets pulled over because of it haha.

I lived in CA. People there would tint all windows but the front windshield super dark and nobody ever seemed to care. I've seen stupid stickers on cars plenty. Of course the 1980 Ford Minivan with hydros was pretty funny.

Realistically, as long as you have a passenger side mirror (to go along with front windshield and driver's side mirror), you should not get hassled by the police about anything to do with your rear window.

(b) This section does not apply to any of the following:

(8) The rear window or windows, when the motor vehicle is equipped
with outside mirrors on both the left- and right-hand sides of the
vehicle that are so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the
highway through each mirror for a distance of at least 200 feet to
the rear of the vehicle.

Can you see back 200 feet with your mirrors?

I was under the impression that the back window is okay, as long as you have both sideview mirrors. There are plenty of vans, etc., that don't have back windows.

I would answer your question yes, but I read over that page twice and didn't see what you quoted lol.

Having anything hanging on your rear view mirror is also illegal in California. Dice, Placards, etc are all illegal to hang in California.

I've seen plenty of trucks around here with the stupid looking "Oh look, there's a baseball stuck in my rear window!" It's probably just a cheap fix-it ticket if anything.

I've driven for 9 months without a front license plate, which I know is a cheap fix-it ticket. Probably around 50% of the cars around here don't wear their front plate (it's a university, so people taking up residency sometimes come from states where only one plate was required, and we just don't feel like drilling holes into the bumper)

You don't even need a rear window at all (think about a moving van or truck for instance). But you must have an un-obscured third brake light. Keep your stickers off your lights and you should be fine.

LOL just driving home today I saw a Ford Ranger with a huge swoosh on its tailgate. I have no idea why.

You aren't required to have 3 brake lights. Lots of cars out there that don't. It may depend on the year the car was made whether that is something which is enforced.
