At my highschool all the young teachers are scared since they are not gonna fire the 10 year + teachers....but reality is all the young teachers are the ones who know there stuff and actualy can and want to teach, all the older teachers are old, stupid, and dont want to help the students....grr this sucks...

Don't the teachers have tenure after 3 or 5 years?

Anyway, they should keep the younger ones, they cost less. Least thats what the tech industry thinks.

The teachers' union will make sure that doesn't happen.

How much money could the state save by not providing free services like education, health care, etc. to illegal aliens?

I think teachers are Union. So low seniority goes first.

The only teachers that have to worry are the first year teachers in the elementary schools, because when the class size reduction goes away, they're not going to need quite as many teachers. I doubt the number is even close to 35%, which would mean 1 out of every 3 is going to lose their job. Not likely.

The Governor (Davis) is a joke. All that talk he put out that education came first for him. That he would hold educators to higher standards. Lots of good that did. The problem also stems from many people who came from the failed dot com world to become teachers. They let them get "Emergency" credentials and now there is a glut of fully credentialed teachers who can't even get jobs because of these others. The whole thing stinks as bad as the Oracle deal Davis tried to work. :disgust:

That's exactly what it is. How can teachers be so selfish? I saw this woman teacher on TV talking like she expected to be completely isolated from the economic reality of CA. She said we should try more "European" approach. She never said the word "taxes" It was always "more innovative revenue ideas".

why don't they just raise taxes 35% to cover the gap?

lol

you laugh. it's happening.

Today Davis is whining that Bush owes him money for 9/11 upgrades. He's trying to get the Indian casinos to pay up. He's going to try every trick in the book to get money out of us. Of course he won't fire all the people he hired who helped cause the shortfall or end his brilliant energy policy of "buy high, sell low."

Well, according to Nancy Pelosi, illegals pay taxes. That's her reasoning behind allowing them into a federal building with only an easily forged Mexian ID card.

They don't need to raise taxes 35% to keep the teachers, only a fraction of the government's money goes to schools, and alot of the money for schools is local taxes, at least in the states I know.

All of you people saying that it will never happen need to wake up. It is happening. I don't think most of you people understand...

Here in Oregon, we are already experiencing major cuts. If measure 28 doesen't pass(tax hike), school will be ending May 6th instead of June 10th. We may be laying teachers off also. There are no spring sports this year. There is no outdoor school this year.

My girlfriends mom is a healthcare worker for the state. She interprets and just otherwise cares for the deaf and deaf-blind community. She is losing her job because there is no money to support such programs anymore. I cannot imagine how this is effecting people that really depend on these services.

This is very real. You cannot pay people when you simply don't have the money. That's as easy as it gets.

And California is much worse off than Oregon's seemingly small 1.5B$ deficit.
