I knew there was more to it. Nobody shoots a crossbow that quickly in self defense. Also NS1, last time I checked you are likely not to be convicted of self defense, but I'm pretty sure you can be convicted of a crime even if you claim the "karma defense".

If you are still in danger of the assault with a deadly weapon I say yes. If you are no longer in danger you don't have the right to go back and assault. We need a timeline of events b/c I find it hard to believe this guy had a loaded crossbow in his car and pulled it up and shot the kid after 1 pass by him. Who knows though?

This incident is likely gang related. No normal 16 year old teen walks around shirtless in California unless they're at the beach, just as no normal teens drives around with a crossbow. Walking around shirtless in this semi-ghetto neighborhood (pockets of good and bad areas) is a taunt. What probably happened is that shirtless teen got confronted and taunted the occupants of the SUV with rocks. Usually, this will end in a fistfight. But in this case, there was no fistfight because the shirtless teen was probably a lot bigger, muscular. Well, we all know what happened next. I highly doubt we'll hear more about the story until the perpetrators are caught, because cops like to keep things vague to see who has firsthand knowledge?
