I never used to do this, but then one day I realized why I should... let's say I've been out and had a few drinks. I'm driving home and an officer wants to take a gamble on me. If they notice I am missing a front plate, they now have a reason to pull me over, assuming I was doing nothing else wrong.

On the other hand, you could simply not drink and drive...

...or are you one of those people who are actually a better driver with a few in you?

MotionMan

It was a hypothetical situation dumbass.

So, let me ask you this: Why would this hypothetical ever apply to you? (See the bold and underlined text above.)

I've been driving around for nearly two years with no plates, never got pulled over.
In fact, when I bought my car used, the guy had vanity plates so I had to get new plates, and the DMV only gave me one plate.
That just shows how well the state themselves enforce the front license plate.

actually calif issues you 2 plates...that just goes to show you probably are not living in calif.

Nope, I went to the DMV down in pomona. I picked up my plates right from the DMV. It came with one plate, and had the option to buy the second one.

That seems unpossible in California. What year did this occur?

I'm suprised this is even an issue for you.
I was stationed in CA a few years ago and bought a car there.
When they gave me my plates the lady looked me right in the eye and said: "We are giving you two plates. YOU WILL put one on the back and YOU WILL put one on the front. We are giving you one set of stickers. YOU WILL put them on the back plate. Do you understand?"

I guess the California DMV must have turned into a bunch of wimps over the past few years.

In researching for this thread, I found the following page: http://www.calpl8s.com/cpinfo.html

Kind of interesting, but, the weird thing is that, unless I am reading it wrong, my personalized plate has a "Banned Letter Combination" - FAN.

I got the plate in 1989.

Funny, every new car I've purchased here they just send you the plates in the mail. And yes, you do get 2 plates and one set of stickers. The stickers can go on either plate but the plate with the stickers goes on the back of the car.

about october 2007

Perhaps you only get both plates if you buy a new car, and if you get plates reissued for an old car, they only give you one plate?

That really seems weird. Were you at the California DMV or an AAA office in California? How much did they want for the second plate?

I just got this PM from dirtboy:

Good to know you pride yourself in being the forum idiot.

I guess that answers that question.
