Calif. tax in Britian????

Just about to order Absol. MultiMed GF2, VAT (Euro tax) and shipping paid. O.K. Then notice comes up that "we are obligated to collect 8.25% Calif. tax by statue"
This from English site/warehouse.
Can anyone explain the legal rationale for a separate COUNTRY to collect tax for Cal. on an Internet purchase?
