Gov Brown took office in Jan. Talks w/Repubs broke down.

If no tax hikes, aka "all-cuts" budget:
-CA schools lose $5B- That could mean that class sizes would rise above 20 kids in the early grades and kindergarten would be restricted to those who are age 5
so parents dont have a tax payer paid babysitter for 3 or 4yr old johhny

this is entitlement -> so what if class sizes go above 20 or kindergarten age being 5? i didnt have that as a kid.

SUCK IT UP

- tuition at the California State University's schools could rise 10%

Oh well. I dont goto those Uni's

- state employees two furlough days per month + 30% drop in state contributions to health care costs.

Arnold is probably thinking "Phew glad i'm not gov anymore :D "

Everyone already knew the "temporary" tax increase measure in 2009 was going to be permanent anyways. I wouldn't want to be Governor in CA, it's a mess.

Why are Republicans blocking putting this on the ballot for the voters to decide?

The tax base of California simply did not keep up with the massive influx of poor third worlders demanding first world social services. Now it's going to have third world social services for all.

I can't tell if you guys are being sarcastic or not. Brown is a politician.

Of course he is and I didn't vote for him, but if he says he's going to fix shit. Well he's got his chance, if he doesn't oh well like I said I'm not giving my hopes up.

Californians have the means to solve their fiscal troubles but they choose not to. They want the rest of America to bail them out. They think it their due. They think wrong.

Let's see if they can figure this out on their own or will adults have to take over and fix it for them?

I don't think that's really the case. Sounds like you're happy about California's troubles though. Also don't forget California is one of the states that sends more into the federal government than they get out.

I don't think the federal government should bail Cali out but you characterizing California as some irresponsible child is silly. Especially when so much of their troubles stem from the federal government not doing its job with border security.

Because the Republican agenda is for a far poorer people, with far richer rich, in a continuing massive transfer of wealth. This is part of the 'less for people'.

Most of our problems stem from the Feds.... Like them allowing all the other States to be shitholes and just taking from us to make up for it.

California is hardly the only state having budget issues. That bastion of "the rest of America", Texas, is having massive issues as well. And oddly enough, it's for basically the same reason. Everyone, left or right, wants low taxes and high spending. California is only the most famous example because their budget numbers are more impressive than the $1.50 it costs to run Alabama.

The Californians blocking the 'means to solve our fiscal troubles' are REPUBLICANS.

They're the ones who initiated a massive gutting of state revenue with slashing the commercial property tax, they're the ones who gave themselves as a minority party the power to block ANY tax increases with only 1/3 of the legislature - and they abuse that power with their 'no new taxes no matter what' type pledges.

They're the ones refusing to approve the governor's very reasonable plan.

Are there any numbers to back up your theory?

Because I get the impression that California is in deep budget problems because they allow voters to easily spend money and not raises taxes. And because voters are idiots, for the most part, that's exactly what they did...for years.

Texas, is having massive issues as well.

How weird that they both happen to be border states.

You can say that Americans are stupid and want something for nothing but you're forgetting the system worked for decades. A moderate amount of taxes produced first world social services.

I've never understood people who say this shit. How can the party pimping the 2nd amendment, which enables revolution, want to push for such disparity between the haves and have nots that they'll end up causing the death of the haves anyways? Seriously think that shit through. You can only come to the conclusion you did if you assume the Republican party is led by absolute fucking retards. They aren't, you're just projecting.

He is a career politician. If he doesn't get re-elected, he'll just go do something else.

The state income and sales taxes have been "temporarily" raised for 2 years now. I was looking back at NY Times articles from Spring/Summer 2009 and they were stating a $24-26B budget gap. So, to me, it seems like the deficit has remained the same or gotten worse. CA is like a fat person who starts walking because they want to lose weight, but refuses to stop eating that gallon of ice cream every day.

Yeah check out the immigration statistics. And it's common sense. Central America didn't export H1B candidates. They exported laborers and farmworkers.

Do you really think recent immigrants from Central America produce enough tax revenues to pay for the social services that all their children get? I'd really like to hear your answer on that one.

You're "Americans are stupid" reasoning doesn't account for the fact that for a long time the system was working.

I can never understand why people seem to be ok with illegal immigration. It does nothing but harm actual citizens in the long run. People who do not have to contribute to society, generally won't. An illegal immigrant employed IS taking the job an American would do. This "jobs Americans won't do" is straight up bullshit and the same people who say it are the same people pimping that they are so much above that kind of work in the first place. None of those assholes have ever built a house, dug trenches, none of that shit. They think it's "crap" work because they think illegal immigrants are "crap". Fuck those people.

They conned us into believing that the "temporary" tax hikes would be enough to close the budget gaps - guess what they lied and now want to make those "temporary" taxes permanent and add more taxes on top.

CA needs to start cutting social services and the State needs to start cutting salaries - our prison guards make more than 2X the pay of the equivalent job in Texas and last I checked its really cheap to live in Chowchilla or Del Norte county. Pensions, life-long free benefits for part time workers - it all needs to go or be drastically cut.

Fix your problems before you come back to the people with your open hands!

Why are Republicans blocking putting this on the ballot for the voters to decide?

Because they know the public employee unions will spend every last dime they have lying to the public through commercials to get the measure passed.

This too. God our teachers union is fucking horrible. Worst thing Arnold ever did was caving into them on the holding teachers accountable for failing classes. We get a roid head into office and some pussy teachers scare him. Did not see that coming.

And the Democrat agenda is to spend every last dollar they get and a lot more that they don't have, then provide unlimited free social services to build a voter base that's dependent on them.
