Hello all,

I very cheap a very cheap PVA monitor that I would like to use for some graphics work. The colors on the monitor are way off, especially when I lower the monitor brightness to comfortable levels. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it to get a this monitor calibrated? Will calibration "fix" the monitor?

Thanks in advance.

define "fix"

Will it improve color? yes of course

Will it make it look like a IPS panel? ? Hell no.

Calibration shows a lot on such monitors, but it will certainly not improve the monitor in question beyond its physical capabilities.
Put another way: if you calibrate, you will definitely see the difference, but don't even think about *buying* a calibrator for it.It's just not worth it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

FYI the monitor in question is the Optiquest Q241b. The initial batch of these monitors were using some sort of PVA panel, but it was later switched to a TN panel. I was lucky enough to get a PVA version before they made the switch.

I would calibrate it. It makes a world of difference on most screens and panels. If you don't want to buy a calibrator then just rent one.
I don't regret buying my calibrator once you get used to a calibrated screen you can't go back.
