Most of them are removed in NY State. I have to say in all my life I ONCE had a pump continue after the tank was full, and gas spilled out.

Anyway, almost all of the time I just jam the handle open using my wallet as a wedge (used to use gas cap but on both cars it's now held by a piece of plastic/wire). Sometimes I'll get back in the car (which I leave running, BTW, ALWAYS) or occasionally go in to buy something.

They took the things out of all self serve (most anyway) in Canada a few years ago... So powerfully annoying as it takes twice as long to get gas and clean the windows as it used to... All of the full serve still use them though.

All because some morons would find some way to spill even with the auto shut off. Stupid people ruin everything for everyone..

You don't understand Maui, sadly. Filling your tank by actually filling it yourself is a big event in the day. You are thinking always about the future and where you want to get to, but the folk on Maui are already there. Next tank, stop the bullshit and just be there. All around you is Maui for Christ sakes. Wake the fuck up.

This was the best nonsensical semi-literate rant I've seen in months. Congratulations, sir.

Maybe ten percent of the stations have them here in CT, and it's been that way for years. Many times it's obvious the clip has been removed.

Not exactly the world's most earthshattering problem, though. If it bothers you that much pony up the extra bucks for full service.

You know what's stupid... CA forced a lot (if not most) gas station owners to change to the new nozzle for smog reasons. Maybe the 11 spills due to the new nozzles has already eclipsed whatever smog savings the state might have had with the new nozzles.

Liberals fail.

May the swaying of palms and white clouds fill your heart. I was born in paradise. The foamy waves that wash by a little child sitting on a sandy beach will make him take off in flight. And the gas is free.

May the swaying of palms and white clouds fill your heart. I was born in paradise. The foamy waves that wash by a little child sitting on a sandy beach will make him take off in flight. And the gas is free.

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the mourning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.

I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.

90% of the stations I go to have them removed. At least in NY, it's illegal to leave the pump unattended, thus going into the store while it's pumping isn't an option anyway.

Nonetheless, if you're smart enough to figure out how to use things as tools (i.e. you have at least the intelligence of an average monkey), you should have figured out by now that you can use your gas cap to keep the pump running while you clean your windows, etc.

Oh, wait a second... didn't realize I was posting in P&N. No wonder you guys haven't figured that trick out.

That sucks. The few I ever went to always had them, and even then I only bought enough gas to last until I was in NJ again.

But yeah, you can always find something to jam it on anyway. Shows what a useless law it is.
