How come the calender year is only 2005 soon tobe 2006? I dont understand why the bc calender years went 5,4,3,2,1 then we switch over to the ad year 1,2,3,4,5 and etc.

you cant count down to something that you are unaware of.

good luck selling those coins stamped 100BC youve got.

think negative numbers, also the definition of "BC"

3 before christ, 2 before christ, 1 before christ, 0 (is there an ad 0?), 1 after, 2 after etc. get it?

so Im assuming back in time of Alexander the Great, according to our history books his years 356bc to 323bc. So back in his time they probably use a whole diffrent calender years?

yeah back then they could not have used BC because they wouldn't have known a man called Jesus was gonna be born (or so they say) 😉

personally I think this BC/AD business is silly but what's done is done and it'd be too much trouble to change the system now...

yeah im not sure what they referenced their years to, but it definitely wasnt an event in the future. 🙂

So in theory we should be in year 7000+. So after Jesus was born, someone decided to rewrite history kind of.

it would not be the first time somebody changed the calendar system.there have been A LOT of calendar systems used throughout history.

Why did you choose 5000 BC as the reference point? something happened there?

The Jewish calendar started with the creation of Adam and Eve, 2006 ==>5766.
The Roman calendar started with the founding of Rome.
