Calendar syncing between Live Mail Calendar and Android

My father in-law insists on using windows Live Mail Calendar, he just bought a Galaxy Note 3 and is unable to get the GN3's native calendar app to sync bidirectionally with his Windows Live Mail desktop client.

His desktop also has outlook so I am tentatively thinking about using Microsoft's "Outlook Hotmail Connector" tool to sync the Windows Live Calendar with the outlook Calendar and then using the paid GSyncIt tool to sync the Outlook with Google calendars.

Unfortunately the above process is fraught with uncertainties and sync delays, anyone have a more elegant solution to this?

and help! they're my in-laws!

I thought it should sync directly. I will have to try with my tab3 when i get home.

I am assuming that you are using the Samsung Calendar app? forget what its called planner i think

Yah I'm using the default Sammy calendar app. It syncs unidirectionally by default, but if a change to an appointment is made on the phone, it does not change the event on the Live Mail Calendar and so next time calendars sync the event automatically reverts to the Live Mail Calendar version and the edits made on the phone are lost.

Does the desktop client sync up at all with the online calendar? I missed that he was using the desktop and had assumed it was the online one.

It would appear that it doesn't in this situation, which seems odd to me. I would think that the Live Essentials Calendar would automatically sync with the online Live calendar but it ain't happening.
